BEACH RENOURISHMENT

Mobilization for the Wrightsville Beach Coastal Storm Risk Reduction Project has begun. Sand will start hitting the beach within the first couple of weeks in January. The sand will be placed between Beach Access 8 (just north of the Holiday Inn Lumina) and just south of the Blockade Runner Resort Hotel. This is historically the area where sand has been placed since the first project was completed in 1965. No sand will be placed north of this area because it was not part of the original Federally authorized project or south of this area because erosion did not impact the authorized project template. Sand is expected to migrate southward and widen the beach south of the Blockade Runner Resort Hotel.   

The US Army Corps of Engineers has provided a link to a tracker where you can follow the daily progress of the project. The tracker may also be accessed on the home page of the Town’s website.
