#BBSJ19 kicks off with a series of Fireside Chats with FCC Chairman Ajit Pai and Commissioners Michael O'Rielly and Brendan Carr , who will be interviewed by Former FCC Chairman Michael K. Powell , Former Acting Chairwoman and Commissioner Mignon Clyburn , and Former Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein , respectively. MMTC President and CEO Maurita Coley , MMTC Board Chairman and Treasurer Ronald Johnson , and Arnold and Porter Partner Stephanie Phillipps will deliver welcome remarks. Spanish Broadcasting System President and CEO Raúl Alarcón will deliver special remarks.

What is on the FCC’s main agenda, and how does diversity fit into those priorities? During this session, the Commissioners and Chairs will answer that question as they discuss the state of broadband, privacy, telehealth, media ownership, spectrum auctions, infrastructure (5G, 10G, small cells deployment, and the digital divide), the fate of the Lifeline program for low-income telecommunications access, the homework gap, and more.
During the Broadband and Social Justice Awards Luncheon, MMTC confers its Distinguished Pro Bono Service Awards to Russell Frisby and Dennis Lane of Stinson Leonard Street LLP; its Corporate Diversity Leadership Award to the Motion Picture Association of America ; and its Everett C. Parker Lifetime Achievement Award to Hon. Marie C. Johns , Former Deputy Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Association. MMTC President and CEO Maurita Coley and MMTC President Emeritus David Honig will present the awards.
During the Luncheon, MMTC also continues its fireside chats with FCC Commissioners - Commissioners Jessica Rosenworcel and Geoffrey Starks are interviewed by MMTC Vice Chair Deborah Taylor Tate and Former FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell , respectively; top Congressional staffers from the House and Senate deliver a legislative update during a fireside chat with MMTC Board Member Deborah Lathen ; and InterMedia Partners' Leo Hindery will deliver keynote remarks.

The luncheon will address our nation’s top media, telecom, and tech issues, and how they impact our most vulnerable communities in relation to jobs, broadband access, entrepreneurship, and the economy. Issues to be discussed include broadband expansion, the digital divide, the homework gap, consumer online privacy protections, and net neutrality, as well as current, pending, and recommended legislation that addresses these issues.
