It's the 1st of November and that means the '2023 Christmas Card Town' Christmas card is now available at the Elkhorn Chamber!
This year's card, painted by T. James Carson, is an evening scene highlighting the Knights of Columbus building located on the St. Patrick's Church property. This is Carson's 12th commissioned piece of artwork which not only celebrates the holiday season but also the history of the Elkhorn Community.
Built in 1897, Columbus Hall had been a prime location for parish gatherings such as meetings, fundraisers and weddings. And let's not forget the family dances with a polka band playing live music from the stage located on the second level. Oh what fun! Over the course of 125+ years, the building slowly showed its age. Many years ago the second level was unable to be used and a handful of years ago the entire building became uninhabitable.
Come early 2024 the building will be taken down. In its absence, St. Pat's Parish will be creating additional office and meeting space with an addition to the existing St Pat's Church which will be extremely valuable to staff, area nonprofits and the church's parishioners. With a timeline in place to remove Columbus Hall, this was the exact year to commemorate and celebrate this beautiful building and all the memories that were made and shared within its walls.
We appreciate Carson's attention to detail and providing all of us a way to remember Columbus Hall which is a treasured part of our community's history.
