CPRC Awarded $1.6M Youth Homelessness System Improvement Grant

A HUGE shoutout to the Housing team for their hard work on the Youth Homelessness System Improvement grant they recently received from US Department of Housing and Urban Development! This funding will enable the creation of the Triangle Youth Assistance Coalition, which will serve Durham, Orange, Wake, and Chatham counties.

July is Disability Pride Month

Disability Pride Month is celebrated every July and is an opportunity to honor the history, achievements, experiences, and struggles of the disability community. Why July? It marks the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), landmark legislation that broke down barriers to inclusion in society. People with disabilities deserve to live full, self-determined lives, just like everyone else. Yet discrimination persists for the 1 in 4 US adults living with a disability. That’s why inspiring stories are spotlighted in July and beyond that show what’s possible with inclusion.

Want to know how you can support businesses who employ individuals with disabilities? Visit 321 Coffee! They have locations in Downtown Durham, Downtown Raleigh, and the State Farmers Market. 321 Coffee is a coffee shop and roaster built on inclusion. Based in Raleigh, NC, 321 currently employs over 50 adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). They are the ones roasting the coffee, taking the orders, and making the lattes. 321 Coffee is demonstrating the value of an inclusive business model. Learn more about them HERE.
