An Innovative APP-led Clinic
Submitted by Nadine Wlasiuk, DNP
Nadine Wlasiuk, DNP and Ben Cachapero, RN implanted the first implantable loop recorder (ILR) at the Heart and Vascular Center ambulatory clinic on the Parnassus campus in April 2024. This APP-led ILR clinic will offer patients a safe, convenient, and comfortable environment and experience in the outpatient setting. Evidence suggests that ILR implantation in the outpatient setting provides better allocation of resources, reduced costs, with improved patient and implanting provider experience. This workflow will expedite ILR implants from electrophysiology (EP), general cardiology, and neurology. Patients referred for ILR outside of EP, will see an EP APP in consultation prior to implant. After implant, the ILR will be followed remotely by the EP clinic device team and the referring provider. The electrophysiology management, clinic, and administration teams were instrumental in building this opportunity for our patients.
