Volume 08 |June 1, 2021

***We have a slight change in plans. We will be meeting in the Akiva courtyard rather than in the parking lot.

Please enter through the GJCC gates, turn right at the stop sign and drive down the hill to Akiva's parking lot.

Please bring a lawn chair.

We will be honoring Lauren Brisky with the Ruach (Spirit) Award!

Lauren has served on the JFS Budget and Finance Committee for over 15 years and recently joined our investment committee. We are so fortunate to have Lauren lend her expertise to the agency and can't wait to honor her!
Lauren J. Brisky has had a long and illustrious career in non-profit leadership, ranging from senior management roles in major universities to multiple board positions in charitable organizations that primarily reflect her core interests in assisting women and young girls.
She is currently Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Sue Peters Foundation, the owner and manager of the real property and financial assets that support the mission of the Girl Scouts of Middle TN. Previously she served as the Chair of the Board of the Girl Scouts of Middle TN.
Until her retirement in 2009, Lauren was Vice Chancellor for Administration and Chief Financial Officer for Vanderbilt University, a private independent research university and regional medical center located in Nashville, TN. At that time, Vanderbilt had an operating budget of $3 billion and net assets of $5 billion. Lauren was responsible for the institution’s financial management and administrative infrastructure, which included such areas as facilities and construction, human resources, information technology, and business operations.
Prior to joining Vanderbilt in 1988, Lauren held positions at North Carolina State University, Cornell University, and the University of Pennsylvania.
Since 2000, she has served on the Board of Trustees of her undergraduate alma mater, Simmons University, where she is the immediate past Chair of the Board.

She is also on the Board of Directors of The Royal Oak Foundation, Americans in alliance with the National Trust of England, Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as the Jewish Family Service Finance and Investment Committees. She is a member of the Tennessee Chapter of the International Women’s Forum and the Tennessee Chapter of Women Corporate Directors. She has been appointed by the President of Cornell University to the Cornell University Council and to the Presidential Council of Cornell Women.
For 11 years, Lauren served on the Board of Directors of Abercrombie & Fitch, where she was on the Audit, Compensation, and the Nominating and Board Governance committees.
Her many past non-profit board positions include the appointment by two mayors of Nashville to the Metropolitan Nashville Sports Authority Board; Nashville Public Radio; the Maddox Charitable Fund and the advisory Committee of Rock the Street Wall Street, an afterschool program that teaches high school girls financial literacy.
Lauren attended Leadership Nashville in 1995 and was a 2013 YWCA Inductee into the Academy of Women Of Achievement.

She received a B.A. degree with distinction from Simmons University and an M.B.A. from Cornell University, followed by training in the executive development program at Harvard’s institute for Educational Management.
