Can you believe it's February already? Look at these snowdrops spotted recently! I swear this was on the Island.

The Co-op has been going through transition as well, building up our newer team members - as we are moving towards Bethery leaving the Co-op. She and Sasha are now running a much larger business, which requires more of her time.

I've affectionately called Bethery "Boss Lady" many a time at the Co-op; she will always be an integral part of the fabric of this community.

Boss Lady, you will be missed.

Passing of the Torch
People are talking, so I thought I'd jump in. My husband Sasha and I have taken over Heuristic Enterprises. We are combining Heuristic with our company SJI Transport Services. Because that changes the scope of our services quite a bit, we are now doing business under a new name: Sasha's Food Connections.

Though you'll be seeing less of me, you'll be seeing more of Michelle Perales, as she has moved into the role of Grocery Lead and Floor Manager.

You may remember Michelle from when she was Produce Manager at the Co-op a few years ago. Be sure to stop by and say hi, and I am still available to help staff and members alike.

Sustainable Wines
We have a few sustainable Washington wines and a fascinating wit beer from Portland that aims to save the planet.

New Wines This Week :

Barter and Trade Sauvignon Blanc - bright, fresh stone and tropical fruits, yellow flowers, vibrant acidity and a hint of minerality. Sustainable.

Raconteur Cabernet Sauvignon - a lighter medium-bodied Cab, with cassis, dark fresh fruit, violets and hints of herbs and earth. Sustainable.

New Beer:

Long Root Wit - brewed with Kernza, a perennial grain developed to draw down carbon and regenerate topsoils, this belgian-style wit is made with organic wheat, hops, coriander and orange zest.
Something I've been wrestling with since I arrived at the Co-op is finding balance of sustainability vs. price vs. local.

For good quality wines in the $10-20 range, I can get sustainable Washington wines, organic California wines or small-farmed organic wines from Europe.

I've been doing a bit of all three, but if you had to choose one, which would you prefer?
