Mary of the Assumption is also the secondary patron of the Archdiocese of Seattle.
In the Catholic Church, each month of the year is dedicated to a particular devotion; in August, it's the Immaculate Heart of Mary. In addition to the Assumption of Mary, other feast days are devoted to Mary in August.

St. John Vianney, pray for us!
On August 4, Fr. David Mulholland (the Elder), Fr. David Mayovsky (the younger), and Deacon Jim Fish celebrated the patronal solemnity of St. John Vianney with Mass on the Grass at St. John Vianney Catholic Church on Vashon Island, followed by a Salmon Bake for lunch.
John Vianney was a French Catholic priest often referred to as the Curé d'Ars, "the parish priest of Ars.". He is known for his priestly and pastoral work in his parish in Ars, France, resulting in the radical spiritual transformation of the community and its surroundings.
He is known for his persevering ministry in the sacrament of confession and ardent devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. He is the patron saint of parish priests.

SEARCH + more
The summer series for adults will answer questions like: Who are you? Why a God? What's our story? Who is Jesus? Am I saved? Why a Church?
—August 11 Topic—
Am I saved?
What Jesus did for us through his life, death, and resurrection was the greatest act of love in history. He saved us. He did this for each one of us. We may feel unworthy of this gift of love. We may feel we have too much baggage. We may feel unlovable. But God didn't reveal himself to us on a pedestal; he came to enter into our messy human condition— to fix us from within, to transform us from the inside out.
Some might be surprised by how generous the love of God is. We don't deserve God's love, but that's the unique reality of God's mercy. This relationship with God isn't all about our love for Him. It's about His love for us that changes our lives forever.

A Letter from Archbishop Etienne
"A year ago, I traveled with a delegation from Seattle and the Archdiocese of Santa Fe to the exact spots where nuclear bombs fell in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We were part of a pilgrimage of peace to Japan led by Archbishop John Wester of Santa Fe. Archbishop Wester has been dedicated to shedding light on nuclear disarmament and calling for change across the United States. He invited me on this pilgrimage because I, too, am dedicated to peace, and here in the Archdiocese of Seattle, we have the largest stockpile of nuclear weapons, sitting on submarines in Kitsap County."
Please read more about the Pilgrimage for Peace in this digital booklet and see our joint-letter invitation to other religious organizations to join the Partnership for a World Without Nuclear Weapons.

Why support the Annual Catholic Appeal?
The Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA) is a combined effort between the Archdiocese of Seattle and its many parishes to support a vibrant Catholic Community in Western
Washington and carry out the mission of the Church. The ACA funds Catholic social ministries, programs for youth and young adult ministries, Catholic Schools, and faith programs, plus administrative support for parishes such as liturgy guidance, evangelization, human resources, and much more.
If you gave last year, please consider increasing your gift by 5% this year. If you did not give last year, would you consider a gift of a dollar a day— $365? The Archdiocesan average gift is $515. Gifts of any amount are welcome, and your gift will significantly impact many lives in Western Washington! Our parishes are responsible for the assessment balance if we do not reach the goals.
If every registered household that has yet to donate made a gift of at least $1 a day, we'd reach our goal!
Read Archbishop Etienne's most recent appeal letter and learn more about how your Annual Catholic Appeal gifts support and positively impact our ministries and change people's lives, like the seminarians featured in the Seattle Archdiocese Annual Impact Report, including recently ordained Fr. Kyle Rink.

Christmas Wishes Fulfilled
Thank you to the parish faithful at Saint Patrick, Holy Cross, and St. John Vianney Churches for celebrating Christmas in July to support the everyday needs of the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel at St. Joseph Monastery in Shoreline.
The generosity of benefactors like you solely supports them in their mission. Together, we fulfilled their wishlist and provided them with everyday basics!
Father David Mulholland's car is loaded up to deliver the gifts. He was their pastor at Saint Mark Parish and continues serving as their confessor.
The Sisters are a Roman Catholic contemplative religious order serving the Archdiocese of Seattle. Their primary mission is to pray for the World, the Church, and especially for all of us in the Archdiocese. In a real way, they are the glue holding us together! They believe a life of prayer in union with God converts hearts and changes the world.

Abby Laxa-Anderson visited the Cathedral of St. Peter in Cologne (Köln), Germany's largest Gothic church in Europe.
Although construction began in 1248, the Cathedral was not fully completed (according to its original medieval plans) until 1880.
The Cathedral is home to the Shrine of the Three Kings, which contains the relics of Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar. The Cologne Cathedral is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of Germany's most visited landmarks.

Scam Alert
Scammers pretend to be our pastors, Fr. David, staff, and teachers.
They ask for your help, inviting you to respond to a text or email because they are in a meeting or can't talk on the phone. If you respond, they ask you for gift card contributions to a worthy cause. These scams are happening across the country.
When in doubt, contact the school or church office directly to verify the legitimacy of any request you receive; do not respond to, forward the original message, or click on links in the message. Learn more
