“Waikiki Dreams: How California Appropriated Hawaiian Beach Culture”
Slide Presentation and Book Talk with author Patrick Moser
You may have seen Patrick at the California Surf Museum when he shared his previous book, Surf & Rescue: George Freeth and the Birth of California Beach Culture in July 2022. His new book picks up where the Freeth book leaves off and tracks California beach culture from 1920 to World War II. Event details to come. Books will be available at the event.

“Swahilia: An East African Surfjourn”
Presentation and Book Talk with author Michael H. Kew
Michael H. Kew is a surfer, author and poet who first tapped his writerly destiny as a California boy in the mid-1980s. All of his stories weave the the surf world into his writing. His work has since been featured globally in magazines, newspapers, films, websites, advertisements, and books, including January 2012's Crossings, his first collection of world travel essays. “I Heard There Were No Waves in New Jersey” by Danny Dimauro and Johan Kugelberg
With photographer and East Coast surf legend Mark Neustadter
As a partner in the project, Mark Neustadter from Margate, New Jersey, took most of the photographs in this book. From winning surf competitions to photography to bringing the top surf brands from around the world to the States, since the late 70s he has helped shape the ever-growing surf industry into what it is today.
