In conjunction with gallery printmaking artist Shirley Bernstein, Silver Circle Gallery in partnership with the Pomfret School Gallery will host "The Transferred Image" exhibition. This featured display represents 15+ print artists from the Printmakers' Network of Southern New England, a group of artist/printmakers many of whom are respected educators as well as award winning artists. The PNSNE seeks to preserve and incorporate the tradition of printmaking while encouraging creative expression and experimentation. The organization's mission is to advocate traditional printmaking and provide a resource for regional artists working with the transferred image.
The exhibit will be on display August 3 - 26, with an opening reception and artist demonstrations scheduled on Friday August 3rd, 6-8pm.
Demos by Joan Hausrath, Mary Teichman, Grace Bentley-Scheck, and Shirley Bernstein will include monoprint, collage, copper plate etching, collagraph, silk aquatint, and reduction woodprints.
This show offers a wide array of the highest quality printmaking by award winning artists. Be sure not to miss out!

Joan will be demonstrating how she creates her monoprints
using collagraph plates, collaged shapes cut from monotype printed papers,
and images printed from polyester litho plates.
Mary will provide in-process examples of her etched copper plates to demonstrate the stages of her printmaking technique and her finished etchings.
"Each of my etchings is created by using four copper plates, one for each primary color, and black. To make a print, the plates are inked and printed sequentially, "wet on wet," producing secondary colors as well as browns and grays, resulting in rich, saturated colors, with a look unique to this medium. I begin with a drawing, and adjust the color as I see the proofs, re-etching, scraping and burnishing until I've
achieved the look I desire. Each plate has a full range of color values and when overlapped the diversity of color is enormous."
Grace will provide examples of her original prints and plates. She will demonstrate the technique of assembling plates, choosing substrates, the layering of paper, and the process of silk organza to create her final images.
Shirley's demonstration is "an exploration of reduction woodcuts."
She will demonstrate how one wood block is used to produce
multiple
colors
in the creation of her heavenly landscapes.
