Dear Mayer Families,
In order to ensure students get into school as safely and efficiently as possible, the Moving Sidewalk will be up and running starting Tuesday, September 5th, from 8:20-8:30 am on Clifton Avenue. Please read below for how it works and a few other reminders.
Morning Drop-Off Procedure
- When you turn on Clifton, you will be waved to 1 of 4 cones where volunteers will be stationed to help assist your student out of the car. Please do not get out of the car and do not allow your student to get out of the car until you are at one of the cones and prompted by a volunteer.
- When you arrive at one of the cones you will be able to unbuckle your student’s seatbelt, but please remain in your car when doing so.
- Please make sure that your student is ready to leave your car when you pull up to one of the cones. This means outerwear on, backpack in hand, goodbyes, hugs, and kisses were already given.
- Your students will be escorted to their designated entrance/cone until they are able to enter the building.
- We are requesting that you not pull away until all 4 cars have been unloaded. Once all students have been unloaded, we ask that you pull away in the order of the cone you are stationed at. Please do not pull around another vehicle even if you have unloaded your student.
A Few Other Reminders
- Use of the Moving Sidewalk is optional. If you opt to not use the Moving Sidewalk and drive to school, please park on one of the neighboring streets and walk your student to school - do not attempt to park on Clifton Avenue. This street will be blocked during drop-off to allow the Moving Sidewalk to operate safely.
- We recognize that some mornings can be more challenging than others with respect to the students. If you are experiencing difficulty with your student while using the Moving Sidewalk, please alert the volunteer who is trying to assist you and when the cars in your foursome are directed to leave, you will be directed into a “slow spot” for you to take the time necessary to say goodbye to your student.
We need volunteers to help unload students from vehicles and escort them to designated entrances. Classrooms will be assigned designated weeks to volunteer for the Moving Sidewalk - more information will be coming from your Room Parent/Guardian. You are also welcome to sign up to help whenever you are available.
Please realize that our collective goal is to ensure that all families utilizing the Moving Sidewalk are able to safely get students out of the vehicle and into the classroom while ensuring the safety of all other Mayer students who may be walking to school. Please be respectful and appreciative to all members of the Moving Sidewalk team, as each of them is graciously volunteering their time to ensure the safety of all our students.
Thank you for your cooperation and patience. If you have any questions, please contact Nell Kolpin at nellkolpin@gmail.com.
Thank you!
