A Note from the Program Manager

Greetings!

As we move into June, we have several exciting updates to share from the Arizona APEX Accelerators.

CMMC 2.0 Implementation:

The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) 2.0 is a pivotal framework designed to enhance the cybersecurity posture of companies in the Defense Industrial Base (DIB) and Government Industrial Base (GIB). Achieving CMMC 2.0 Level 1 or Level 2 is crucial for ensuring the security and integrity of sensitive information. We strongly encourage all our active clients to complete the CMMC 2.0 survey to assess readiness and identify areas for improvement. This certification ensures compliance and provides a competitive edge in securing defense contracts.

Welcome Chris Bridgewater:

We are delighted to announce that Chris Bridgewater has transitioned from his temporary role to become a full-time APEX Specialist in our Tucson office. Since joining us in July last year, Chris has been instrumental in supporting our initiatives, and we are thrilled to have him as a permanent member of our team.

Upcoming Contracting Period:

As we prepare for our new contracting period starting July 1, we remain committed to meeting our DIB and GIB goals. Our focus will be on leveraging our enhanced capabilities and the expertise of our team to provide exceptional support and resources to our partners. We are dedicated to helping you navigate the complexities of government contracting and ensuring your success in this competitive landscape.

Thank you for your continued partnership and dedication. We look forward to a productive and successful new contracting year.

Best regards,

Lori Haozous

Fraud Alert:

Fake Government Requests for Quotes

The General Services Administration (GSA) Office of Inspector General is aware of scams involving disguised or “spoofed” email addresses that target small businesses and large businesses, including federal contractors registered in SAM.gov.

Scammers falsely claiming to be employees of a federal government agency use such “spoofed” email addresses to solicit fraudulent Requests for Quotations (RFQs). The fraudsters generally seek RFQs for electronic equipment (cell phones, laptops, tablets, and other electronic devices). These “spoofed” emails appear to originate from government email domains, including “.gov” or “.mil”, but have non-government domain extensions such as “.net”, “.org”, or “.com.”

Entity Administrators: An Important Role

What happens when the only person who has access to your SAM.gov account leaves your company? If this happens, no one else can access your SAM.gov account. If no one can access it, no one can renew it and it expires. If your SAM.gov account is inactive, you can't work with the federal government.

So, what do you do? You then undergo a rather time-consuming process to add more people as new entity administrators, that’s what you do.

The process can take some time and effort but it’s meant to keep your entity safe from those who want to impersonate it. That’s why you may have to:

  • Complete entity registration paperwork.
  • Obtain notarized letters and pay the associated fees.
  • Spend time on the phone with the service desk.

But it doesn't have to be that way. You can ask your entity administrator to log in to SAM.gov and appoint another administrator.

Join GSA for a webinar on June 25th to Learn About All the Roles in SAM.gov

Reshoring & Sustaining the Industrial Base of the U.S.

June 11

12:00 PM

Webinar

Reshoring is Surging. How your Company can Benefit.

For decades, the U.S. lost 10,000s of businesses and millions of jobs to offshoring. The resulting broad hollowing out of U.S. manufacturing weakens our ability to ramp defense materiel production.

It is now clear that shorter supply chains are lower risk and are more profitable for OEMs for 20 to 30% of products that are now imported. Almost 2 million jobs have been announced reshoring since 2010. Geo-political risks add further motivation. Find how to accelerate and benefit from the trend.

Takeaways include how to:

  • Identify the components and products most eligible to reshore.
  • Quantify the costs and risks of offshoring, the benefit of restoring.
  • Find companies that import what you make. Sell to them.
  • Convince companies to reshore and buy from you.
  • Justify automation to achieve needed competitiveness
  • Strengthen skilled workforce recruitment
