Podcasts for Your Summer Road Trips

Listening to podcasts is a great way to play and learn together as a family. PBS KIDS has four podcasts for young learners, each with related games and activities. And several PBS series have their own podcasts, including NOVA and Eons. Our very own Science Trek will launch its new podcast in September! All available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

Why listen together?

Idaho Youth Who are Guiding Our Work

We have created our first Youth Advisory Committee at Idaho Public Television!

Students ages 16 to 20 guide and inspire our work for the Jobs Explained initiative. Our Youth Advisory Committee meets three times a year to discuss how best to reach Gen Z with information on education, training, and job opportunities in the construction sector.

Thank you to Jared C., Sedona C., Bradley D., & Bryce T., for their commitment to this project! Follow Construction Jobs Explained on Instagram and Facebook. Nine other public media stations around the country are also participating, each taking on a different job sector. We encourage you to follow them all!

Did You Know? 100% of the work IdahoPTV Education does in Idaho is funded by private donations and grants.

Kicking-off Summer around Idaho

We helped libraries around Idaho kick off their summer reading programs in June, from Meridian to Mountain Home Air Force Base, Rupert to Filer, and we joined in the family fun at the popular Family Day in Coeur d'Alene.

We attended the Idaho Indian Education Summit in Lewiston, where we learned a lot about early childhood education on reservations here in Idaho, and discussed ways to better support the state's tribal communities.

And we visited the Nez Perce National Historic Park (pictured, left) to see artifacts and hear stories from Nez Perce leaders.

11 Creative Ways to Enjoy Reading This Summer

For kids today who have plenty of devices and distractions that compete with books, it can be hard to learn how to enjoy reading. And for parents, encouraging your kids to work through a summer reading list and discovering all the worlds and characters waiting for them can also be a challenge. Thankfully, new technology and old-fashioned imagination bring us plenty of new ways to enjoy summer reading from home.
