Stay tuned to next week's newsletter for Zoom link!!

For thousands of years, the midpoint between the Autumn Equinox and Winter Solstice has been honored and recognized as both the time "between years" and "between worlds", and in the turning of the wheel it is also the darkest time. The Celtic earth spirituality calls this Samhain, which translates as "Summer's End". Over time, other names and holidays have emerged and been "assigned" to this midpoint including All Souls Day, All Saints Day, All Hallows Eve and Halloween.  This year, 2020, we find both the second full moon of the month (called a blue moon) and the end of Mercury Retrograde falling at this sacred time. Added to that, we find ourselves in the midst of a still global pandemic and a highly charged presidential election in the United States.
   In the service at ISD on Sunday, November 1, Lori Solensten will be speaking about this unique time we are passing through, its ancient roots and how we can honor and learn from our ancestors as to keep our balance and gratitude through the next few weeks.

Allowing Abundance

We will strengthen our intentions for abundance with the support of the group energy field.

Hold on a While
by Amos Russel Wells

When all the sky is very black
And all the earth is blue,
And all the fiends are on your track
And howling after you;
When courage falls and hope decays
And fair ambition dies,
And all your dreamland is ablaze
Beneath the ebon skies;
When you would fain renounce the goal,
Nor plod another mile,
Oh, straighten up your drooping soul,
And—just—hold on—a while!
Hold on a while! the darkest night
May bring the fairest day.
Hold on a while! the good, the right,
Will always find a way.
Hold on! for is Jehovah dead?
His love an empty song?
Hold on! have heaven's armies fled
Before the hosts of wrong?
Hold on! for still some strength remains,
Nor yield you till you must;
A newer life may flood your veins;
Born of a larger trust.
A newer life—hold on for that!
A lily from the mud!
The greening peak of Ararat
Emerging from the flood!
The clouds are shattered by the sun;
The earth is all aglow;
Away the howling devils run,
And back to hell they go!
Hold on for that! Do what you can,
Nor prove a craven elf;
For heaven never helped a man
Until he helped himself.
And when your fondest hopes are dead
And fate has ceased to smile.
'Tis then it pays to lift your head
And—just—hold on a-while.

And the Good News Is!!!!!

  • A Texas restaurant, famous for its funny signs, is still bringing smiles and chuckles during this Covid-19 era. Get ready to giggle when you see their signs in This article from the Good News Network!!

  • Check out This MSN.com article about the amazing 14 year old who won the 3M Young Scientist Challenge by discovering a potential treatment for Covid-19. Anika Chebrolu started her research hoping to find a cure for influenza, but changed direction after the pandemic hit

  • Softer and sexier sparrow songs in San Francisco? This is an interesting article from the Smithsonian about a study proving that song birds in large cities have had to adapt their singing to be heard above the hustle and bustle of humanity. Since the pandemic, it was found that birds in San Francisco were now singing more softly, but being heard for greater distances.

  • Nature helping out!! Here is an incredible article about an owl that flew into a helicopter battling wildfires in California. Looks like the little guy just wanted to make sure that the important job was being done right!

The below links will remain here so that you will easily be able to find them if you have a need:

  • Do you or someone you know need some assistance with mental health issues or coping during this pandemic period. Here is a link to the US Department of Health & Human Services that will provide you with resources and tools to help deal with the stress of this time.

Got Bottles & Cans to return?

ISD has a CLYNK account at Hannaford in Oneonta.

How can I help?
Go to the Lotus Center, 41-45 Dietz St., and even if the door is locked, you will see stickers in the plastic flyer display holder on the wall to the LEFT of the Door, under the prayer flags.
Take one to put on each bag that you are bringing to Hannaford- Ask someone there where the bags go. With that correct tag on it, the bottle deposit money goes directly into the ISD Oneonta Account.

Thank you to all who have brought in your 5 cent returnables for us to return, and to Connie Lull for delivering to Hannaford.
We have built up about $160 for ISD just from returning our cans!
Thank you!

Help us to raise the money to pay ISD National for our hymnals.
You are invited to dedicate an ISD Oneonta hymnal in the name of a loved one. For a donation of $35 a custom bookplate will be permanently placed in a hymnal.
You may dedicate it to the Memory of a friend or loved one who has died; OR you may present it "in Honor of:" a living friend or loved one, who you would like to honor- as a gift to mark a special occasion, or just to thank them.

Simple to do, click on the below link, fill out the form, and press send!
