This newsletter contains some exciting accomplishments by our SkillsUSA high school students, a recording of our international adult student performances, and exciting ways to connect with our programs and services at Metropolitan Education District.

We teach eligible high school students to succeed in careers and college in a professional, hands-on environment. Students explore and develop technical skills that will lead them to success in higher education or the workplace.

Our adult education school offers classes for free or at a very low cost. We provide a supportive learning environment that prepares students to achieve their fullest potential by empowering them with skills to succeed in a local and global society.

SVCTE Students Win 14 Metals at SkillsUSA State Competition
|
Out of 38 students, competitors won five gold medals, five silver medals, and three bronze medals during at the state competition on April 19-22. Gold medalists are eligible to participate in the 54th Annual National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, KY.

The 2018 Fashion Show will take place on Friday, May 11 at 6 pm. Students in SVCTEβs Fashion Design & Textile Art class will showcase their creations in The Hub during a live show. Tickets are $5 per person and refreshments will be served.
|
|
|

SVCTE's 13th Annual Custom & Classic Car Show: May 4
|
Classic car clubs, collectors, and enthusiasts are invited to attend the 13th Annual Custom and Classic Car show on Friday, May 4, from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. Spectator admission to the car show is free, with limited parking. Exhibitor passes are a $20 tax-deductible donation/fee per car, truck, motorcycle or bicycle in the SVCTE auto show. All proceeds go directly to support students competing in SkillsUSA competitions.

MetroED Launches Peachjar for eFlyers
|
This month, MetroED began using Peachjar to distribute flyers to high school parents, staff, and adult education students. This will track the amount of paper being saved since flyers are emailed directly to recipients.

We would like to congratulate Alexandra Duran for being named a
Women of Influence 2018 by
The Silicon Valley Business Journal. Alexandra oversees the Silicon Valley Career Pathways Trust Grant at MetroED and is the Dean of Workforce and Economic Development at San JosΓ©-Evergreen Community College District. She will be recognized at the
Women of Influence Awards on May 31.

The SVAE International Day program was held Friday, March 30. Students, staff, and guests filled the auditorium to watch song and dance performances from Korea, Vietnam, Iran, Central & South America, Russia, China, and Mexico. This year the program was being streamed live via the SVAE Facebook page!

My Name, My Identity. By pronouncing studentsβ names correctly, you can foster a sense of belonging and build positive relationships in the classroom, which are crucial for healthy social, psychological, and educational outcomes.

Student Trophy Design Contest Offers $1,000 Scholarship
|
Through this annual student design contest, ACTE's Excellence Award trophies not only celebrate CTE but showcase the talents of its greatest achievement: its students. The contest to design ACTE's Excellence Award trophies is open to secondary, postsecondary and adult CTE students in 3D design courses or other CAD courses. The deadline for applicants is quickly approaching: May 1.

Volunteer Tutors Needed for Adult Students
|
Volunteers make a difference in our studentsβ lives! Volunteer your time to tutor one-on-one with adult students who are completing credits for their high school diploma or learning English. Tutors are needed one or twice a week, morning or evening.

Join us from 5 pm to 8:30 pm for custom and classic cars, live music, food, and prizes for exhibitor vehicles! Free for spectators, $20 per exhibitor vehicle.
