"With the Eyes of Your Heart Enlightened"
|
|
"I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, and for this reason I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers. I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints..."
(Ephesians 1:15-18, NRSV)
One of the most memorable and sacred moments of our recent Seventy Fifth Anniversary celebration happened a day earlier on Saturday morning. The session gathered for a simple leadership retreat, to welcome new elders into the fold, to prepare for the upcoming new year, and to continue discerning the movement of God's Spirit within this church family. We spent time together in worship, reading the words of Ephesians, and then listened to the faith statements of newly installed elders. It was a holy experience. Their spirit-filled words were inspiring and highlighted how we are called to glorify God in all that we do.
Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church is truly blessed to have such a thoughtful and dedicated group of elders serving on session as we continue to celebrate our past while looking forward to the future that God is bringing! During this retreat, we were joined by the Rev. Karen Russell, our Interim Transitional Presbyter of Holston Presbytery, who helped us recognize all that God is doing in the midst of our shared ministry, while also encouraging us to make space for what God is calling us to pursue together as the body of Christ. I look forward to seeing how God's Spirit moves throughout the shared work of the Session over this next year and I ask for your prayers for this group of servant leaders as they lead us to love like Jesus in everything we do together as a church family. May God's Spirit of wisdom continue to move through the ministry of this congregation for many more years to come!
Gratefully,
- David

Your Session met on Monday evening, January 16. Business items included the approval of using reserve funds to cover the small deficit in the 2022 budget; the election of Clark Parker as Clerk of Session and Randall Fields as Treasurer for 2023; and authorizing Finance, Administration and Planning (FAP) to contract with a technology partner for CHPC infrastructure needs. It was also noted that we believe all on-line giving has been converted from the previous Clover system to the new Realm system.
If anyone participates in on-line giving and has not been contacted by the church office to make this system conversion, please contact Sarah Johnson at finance@chpres.org.
The next Stated Session meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 20 at 5:30 pm.
Respectfully,
David and Clark
