"Big Dreams" We All Have Them

Greetings!

September is a month of anticipation and excitement for all of us here at EmpowHer Institute. We are buzzing with enthusiasm about the 2012-2013 school year, which is starting this month, bringing with it a great deal of positive energy.

We have been preparing all summer to start off strong this fall with our improved curriculum and new activities for the Empowered Girls Program and our entrepreneur program, E-BEST. We can't wait to introduce new and returning mentors and welcome the students back to our program.

We hope you had a wonderful summer and are as energized to start this next school cycle with us as we are.

I look forward to seeing many of you as we work together to help our girls reach their dreams and be successful.

Visioning Exercise

As a mentor, you work with the girls on various exercises such as this visioning exercise where the girls were asked to write down their Wildest dream. We honor their dreams and support their efforts. We show the girls a path to success through education, mentoring and empowering experiences.

Volunteers Matter:
Join Us

We are working to get a 1:1 mentor/mentee ratio for our program. This means that we need 120 mentors! If you know someone who would be a good fit, please forward our information and ask them to register on our website. We have opportunities not only for mentors, but also for speakers and other various volunteers. Your help is GREATLY appreciated, especially by OUR GIRLS!! According to our volunteers, it is a rewarding experience for them. It is easy. We have a new mentor/volunteer management system, VolunteerMatters, to enroll our volunteers. Find out for yourself. EmpowHer welcomes Heather Sheldon, our new Program Manager!

Over the past 12 months, Heather worked closely with our organization as a volunteer mentor, co-chair of the Junior Advisory Council and member of the 2013 Event Subcommittee for EmpowHer. Heather brings valuable non-profit and training experience, has developed curriculum and implemented programs. She also brings extensive experience working with AmeriCorps VISTA. She is a graduate of Western Washington University with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies. Welcome, Heather!

We would like to thank Danielle Herring for her contribution as outgoing Program Manager. She did an incredible job in creating exciting experiences for the girls and the volunteers. Her infectious smile and energy will be missed. We wish her all the best and look forward to her continued support.
