All Things St. Philip's
May 25, 2023

On Sunday, May 28th, we will welcome the Diocese of Virginia's newest diocesan bishop, the Rt. Rev'd E. Mark Stevenson, for worship and a festive reception. A celebration to honor the birthday of the church and holy baptism of Antoine Pierre Fitzgerald. | |
This Sunday is Pentecost so remember to wear red when you come to service.
| |
When the day of Pentecost had come, the disciples were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
Dear beloved,
As we celebrate Pentecost this week, we often wear the color red as a sign of the Holy Spirit. We will tell the story of the Spirit in Acts and recognize the Spirit's presence in all of us. This story from long ago reminds us of the presence of the Spirit here and now. We see the Spirit working in and through us in our ministry and in our daily lives. We see it in the St. Francis food pantry distributing food to those in needs, in the adults who volunteered to serve at Barack Obama ES, volunteers who clean the gutters, change light bulbs, refilling oil to make sure the sanctuary candles never goes out and in our daily lives in the world.
Where can you see the Spirit in the world around you? I look forward to seeing you this weekend as we celebrate the Resurrection of Christ and the gift of the Holy Spirit!
See you in church!

Prayer For Those Preparing For Confirmation and Reception
Lord, You send out Your Spirit to touch the hearts of all people, so that they may believe in You and in Jesus whom You sent. Look kindly on all candidates for Confirmation and Reception, especially Lornel Thompkins, Vivienne Brown and Adam Martinez, as they listen to Your voice. Open their hearts to Your Spirit and bring to fulfilment the good work that You have begun in them.
As we prepare these, your children for Confirmation and Reception, make each of us an instrument of Your love. Teach us to appreciate what is holy in
others, and to be patient with what we do not understand. Deepen our faith in the Gospel and help us to pass it on by our example. We pray that You will continue to guide us and sustain us. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

SUBMIT YOUR PRAYERS HERE
Every three years the United Thank Offering assembles a small book of gratitude-related prayers, one of the most popular items we give out at each General Convention/Triennial and as long afterward as they last. We get these prayers from everywhere throughout The Episcopal Church, and it's time for you all to start working on prayers for the 2024 edition. We are looking for original, unpublished prayers in any language used in The Episcopal Church.
I look forward to reading and praying all of your prayers.
Gratefully, Sherri Dietrich, UTO Board President
