@9:30 a.m. Holy Eucharist/ Rite II

Sunday Service Bulletin: July 7, 2024

A Message from our Rector!

Dear St. Philip’s Family,

What a journey it has been! Despite the twists, turns, and countless adjustments, we’ve made it over halfway through 2024 and into the summer. The good news? God’s grace has not only sustained us but also strengthened us. We emerge from this season with resilience and renewed purpose.

Here’s what’s happening at St. Philip’s this summer:

Worship Service:

  • We have moved to one service at 9:30 am, providing sacred moments for reflection and community.
  • Sunday Bible Study will be taking a time of Sabbath and will return in the Fall. Wednesday Noonday Prayer with the Circle of Love will continue.

Summer Giving:

  • Remember that the church continues to function during the summer. The office is open on limited hours, The St. Francis Food Pantry is open, and the work of ministries continue.
  • Don’t take your tithes and offering on vacation with you. There are various ways to set up automatic payments, so you don’t miss a payment or fall behind. See below for Giving information.

Formation and Fellowship:

  • How to Lead Morning Prayer is coming up on July 14th.
  • High Tea with Rev. Marlene to welcome our New Members (4 years or less) is July 21. Everyone is invited.

Rest and Refreshment:

  • Many of us feel weary. Let’s intentionally create space for rest and Sabbath.
  • Remember the practices of slowing down, finding peace, discovering joy and recharging.

Pastoral Leave:

  • With the Vestry’s blessing, I’ll be on vacation from July 22nd to August 24th.
  • During this time, I’ll enjoy beach moments with family and friends, and incorporate the practices of slowing down, finding peace, discovering joy and recharging.
  • I’ll return on August 25th, ready to hit the ground running as we celebrate the Program Year Kickoff and Blessings of Backpacks, computers, students and teachers.

Continuity and Leadership:

  • While I’m away our Vestry, Parish Administrator, Verger and leadership team will ensure care for all.
  • Pastoral Care will be available through our Pastoral Care Team, Vestry Shepherds and On Call Clergy.

Our fall calendar is brimming with exciting plans:

  • Sunday School for children
  • Children's Moment on the 3rd Sunday
  • Fellowship opportunities
  • Formation opportunities
  • Fall Clean-Up
  • Homecoming
  • Richmond Flying Squirrels Baseball Game
  • AND MORE!!!!

May the Holy Spirit restore our energy and ignite our commitment to God’s work. Let’s embrace the ministry of the church and community with renewed enthusiasm.

Summer blessings to each of you.

In faith,

Rev. Marlene

Training Lay Leaders to Lead Morning Prayer

Sunday, July 14th after the 9:30 am service

Training Lay Leaders to Lead Morning Prayer

July 14, 2024 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

In small congregations, it helps your priest tremendously if a few lay persons are trained in how to lead Morning Prayer for when a priest is not available. At this training, the Rev. Marlene E. Forrest will teach lay leaders the basics of leading Morning Prayer. This training is intended to build basic skills and, if desired, be a foundation for further learning toward getting a license to be a Lay Worship Leader.
