HOLIDAY CARING AND SHARING
|
During the months of November and December, our schools and families were working to collect a variety of items to help our DASD families in need during the holiday season. Dallastown families donated almost $20,000 in monetary donations for school counselors to utilize in purchasing items such as clothing, toys, gift cards, food baskets, and more.
Together, our community was able to help approximately 200 Dallastown families in need during the holidays.
The Dallastown Area School District and School Counselors would like to thank the following for making the annual Caring and Sharing Holiday Project a success:
- Dallastown staff, students, families, and community members who provided monetary, gift, and food donations
- Salem Lutheran Church in Jacobus
- Jacobus Lioness Club
- High School Students who collected donations to support the program
- High School Baseball Team & Mr. Kinneman for sorting and organizing items
- Bethlehem United Methodist Church

Wherever you look, the need for hope and support is apparent, perhaps more than ever. Nursing homes are no exceptionâ in fact, the sentiment is even stronger. During this time, senior citizens are extremely isolated due to their vulnerability to COVID-19. What was once a season of celebration and gathering is now accompanied with a growing sense of anxiety and loneliness as families and friends cannot visit their loved ones in nursing homes and retirement facilities.
With this in mind, DHS Health STAT Club President Anand Patel organized the Cards of Hope Campaign for the Holidays with the goal of uplifting, encouraging, and providing hope and holiday cheer for senior citizens in the York community. This project was led by DHS Health STAT Club in partnership with DHS National Honor Society, DHS Leo Club, and DHS Interact Club. Overall, a generous total of 511 handwritten cards were filled with heart felt messages and distributed to every resident in Country Meadows nursing home on Christmas morning.

INCLEMENT WEATHER ANNOUNCEMENT
|
|
It is likely over the next several months we will see forecasts of inclement weather. In preparation, we encourage students and families to be prepared by reviewing the Inclement Weather / Short Term School Closure Learning Options below.
-
Traditional âInclement Weather Dayâ: In extreme weather conditions, the District may still call an inclement weather day in which no in-person or remote instruction will occur.
-
Wildcat Remote Learning Day: A remote learning day will be called when adverse weather conditions exist that make travel to and from school unsafe. Students will not physically report to school. Instead, all students will participate in a remote learning day. The learning day will include asynchronous work for students. Specific details about schedules for the day will be communicated by your childâs principal and/or teacher.
-
Delayed Start: Delayed starts will be called when what appears to be temporary adverse weather conditions exist. Students will still physically report to school, based on the announced delayed schedule. Specific details about schedules for the day will be communicated by your childâs principal and/or teacher.
Should a delayed start, early dismissal, or inclement weather closure of any kind be necessary, families will continue to receive a District email and phone call when the school day is modified. Additionally, modifications to the school day will also be posted on the District website and social media.
