Dear Friends and Neighbors:

As we head into the long weekend celebrating President's Day, I wanted to give you a quick update on our last Regular Council Meeting and our trip to Tallahassee as well as share some upcoming events.

On Monday, February 6th, the Village held its Regular Council Meeting. You can view the Log of Final Action here. You can also tune into Inside Palmetto Bay to view a quick video on the meeting. In addition to passing an Ordinance on Second Reading to help clarify Village charitable contributions, the Village passed the following items:
βœ… Resolution to sunset the current term of the Neighborhood Protection Committee and review other committees in the future.
βœ… Resolution approving the 2023 STATE LEGISLATIVE AGENDA of Miami Dade County Public Schools

The following items failed:
πŸ“ Resolution to prevent adding Pickleball lines on the Palmetto Bay Park basketball courts was defeated 4-1
πŸ’§πŸ’§Resolution to amend the WELL ABANDONMENT PROGRAM GUIDELINES AND REQUIREMENTS FOR WELL ABANDONMENT AND WATER MAIN CONNECTIONS. This item was not in proper format.

Thank you to those that joined us to listen in and speak in support of Pickleball. I had the opportunity to join Pickleball Ambassador Lily Azel this past week on Community Newspapers 𝘐𝘡 𝘐𝘴 𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘈𝘣𝘰𝘢𝘡 π˜—π˜ͺ𝘀𝘬𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘒𝘭𝘭 Show with Lori Nussbaum. Click below to view the show. A special shout out to our Commissioner who was able to pass a resolution at the county level that directs the county to do a feasibility study for a pickleball facility in District 8. Now that would be next level!

Last week, the Council visited Tallahassee to advocate for our Budget Appropriations. Storm water projects and Veterans Park were on the agenda as we met with key members of the Florida House & Senate including Senator Ana Maria Rodriguez, former Senator Jose Pepe Diaz, Senator Jason Pizzo, Senator Ileana Garcia, Rep. Christopher Benjamin, Andres Torres (the aide for Rep. Daniel Perez and Westminster graduate '18), and Dr. Nancy Lawther of the Florida PTA. A special thank you to our Senator and Representative Senator Alexis Calatayud and Representative Alina Garcia who are strong advocates for all things Palmetto Bay and are carrying our appropriations! Thank you to all those who work tirelessly to improve our Village!

While Village Hall will be closed for the holiday, our Parks and Recreation and Police Department are cooking up some great events. Hope to see you in and around the Village. As always, I am here to answer questions or lend a helping hand and I encourage you to tune into reliable sources of information. Please feel free to contact me at kcunningham@palmettobay-fl.gov or at 305-799-0695. Together we are making Palmetto Bay an even better place to live, work, learn, and play.

Warm regards,
