As a reminder, vape detection systems have been installed in all secondary restrooms and are scheduled to be operational on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.
The use of tobacco, e-cigarettes, or vape products is prohibited in our schools and on District grounds, per Policy 223: Tobacco and Vaping Products. This policy prohibits student possession, use, purchase, and sale of tobacco and vaping products, including Juuls and other electronic cigarettes. The policy can be found on our District’s website. The use of tobacco or vaping is outlined in our Student and Family Handbook as a Level III Infraction. Level III Infractions are referred to an administrator and may lead to in or out-of-school suspension.
The new sensors can detect the difference between Nicotine & THC vapors, Carbon Dioxide, Tampering, and Aggression. When activated, these devices will signal to our Safety Officers and School Administrators, who have received professional learning to respond to each alert.
To help families and students better understand the health risks associated with vaping our Middle & High Schools will be hosting information sessions during the month of November and have resources available.
