More than 200 people gathered at FAU Tech Runway Thursday evening to celebrate its fifth anniversary at the 2019 Maverick Reception.
The evening was filled with honoring entrepreneurial achievements of several alumni and included remarks from FAU President John W. Kelly, Ph.D.; Daniel C. Flynn, Ph.D., FAU vice president for research; and Rhys L. Williams., FAU Tech Runway managing director and associate vice president for research.
FAU Tech Runway presented the
Lifetime Contribution Award to Anthony Barbar, chairman of the FAU Board of Trustees and president and CEO of Barbar & Associates, LLC, and also to Dennis Crudele, former interim president at FAU, member of UCF Board of Trustees and president and CEO of C Group 3, LLC. Barbar and Crudele were instrumental in launching FAU Tech Runway.
Ron Tarro, a former CEO of SDD, Inc., a global telecommunications software and management services company, was honored with the
Maverick Mentor Award. Tarro serves on the Mentor Board at FAU Tech Runway.
The
Maverick Award for Entrepreneurial Achievement was presented to John Duffy, founder and CEO of 3Cinteractive (recently merged with imiGlobal), a leading software provider to the mobile phone industry.
Jan Bednar, founder and CEO of ShipMonk, a company that manages e-commerce supply chains and order fulfillment, was awarded the
Maverick Venture of the Year Award. Bednar was a member of the FAU Tech Runway's first Venture Class.
