Get To Know Us

At the Charles Evans Center (CEC), we truly care about the clients we serve and the life-impacting work we do. But, we don’t always get to highlight our staff that is performing that work. So, now we are introducing â€śGet To Know Us!” This feature will consist of pictures of our staff, along with a bio - showing how each of us are delivering “Care With Excellence and Compassion”

Meet Leah Loetman. Leah is working this summer at our Bethpage and Glen Cove offices as a Medical Assistant (MA). She also previously worked a summer at our community partner, ACLD, as a finance clerk when she was still in high school. After finishing her summer with us, Leah will begin her Senior year at Colby College, where she is majoring in Environmental Science and also volunteers as an EMT. After graduating she plans to go on to Physical Assistant school.

As a Medical Assistant, Leah greets and brings patients from the lobby to the medical area, takes and records vitals and prepares the patient for their medical visit.

Leah says, “I like working at the Charles Evans Center. I enjoy the people and patients I work with, and I can honestly say that every day is different (in a good way!).”

Thank you, Leah, for the hard work and care you have given to the patients at CEC!

Our Summer In The Community

Presenting At The 2023 Nassau County Town Hall

We thank Tanya Jackson Edwards, for graciously sharing information about our Safe Harbor Program at the annual Nassau County Town Hall.

As the Supervised Residential Program Coordinator at our Glen Cove office, Tanya was able to provide valuable insights into our program, and highlighted how it offers short-term residential support to adults aged 18 and above who find themselves in the midst of a mental health or housing crisis.

Last month, our Director of Operations at the Glen Cove Office, John Javis, along with community members Jeanne Morrison and Angel Hinostroza, spoke about Veterans Grief and Loss to over 100 veterans, family members and stakeholders that serve veterans.

Javis served our country as a Chaplain Candidate in the Army Reserves, and he spoke about an Army Colonel whom he served with stateside, who took his own life while deployed in Iraq.

Hinostroza was a Chaplain Assistant in the Army and served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He shared openly about his military experiences, and the impact it has had on him. Morrison had served in the past as the Director of the Nassau VET Center, and she shared about grief, loss and recovery from a clinical perspective.
