Teaching Kids about Safety Parameters is Crucial for their protection.

Safety Parameters

Hello Carolina,

Teaching kids about safety parameters is a crucial aspect of child protection.

Here are some steps you can take to help teach kids about these important safety measures:

  • Teach them about safe and unsafe touch. Explain that a safe touch is one that feels okay, like a hug from a family member or a pat on the back. An unsafe touch is one that feels wrong or makes them uncomfortable, like being touched on a private area.

  • Teach them about consent. Help them understand that they have the right to say no to any touch they don't like, even if it's from someone they know and trust.

  • Teach them about boundaries. Help them understand that it's okay to set boundaries with people, even adults. Teach them to say "no" when someone asks them to do something that makes them uncomfortable.

  • Teach them to recognize warning signs. Explain to them that it's important to listen to their instincts and pay attention to warning signs, such as when someone tries to isolate them, asks them to keep secrets, or gives them gifts or special attention.

  • Let them know that they can come to you with any questions or concerns they may have. Encourage an open dialogue with them about personal safety.

  • Teach them about safe and unsafe secrets.

We have a podcast coming with the psychologist Adriana Solera, where she will talk about secrets. Stay tuned for it's launch on May 16th!

It is important to remember that teaching kids about safety parameters to prevent child sexual abuse, as well as all other types of abuse, should be an ongoing conversation and should be tailored to their age and developmental level. Regularly checking in with them about their understanding of personal safety and reinforcing these concepts can help keep them safe.
