Congratulations to FAU's Newest Members of the National Academy of Inventors
Four faculty members were recently inducted into the FAU Chapter of the National Academy of Inventors. The chapter, one of more than 50 university chapters across the country, was established to recognize inventors for their accomplishments in research and commercialization, and to enhance the visibility of scientific innovation at FAU. The four were publicly recognized by Vice President of Research Daniel Flynn, Ph. D., on Sept. 26, at the 2019 Research Showcase at FAU Tech Runway. Each inductee received an NAI member pin and certificate, presented by Dana Vouglitois, assistant director of the Office of Technology Development.
Inductees include:
- Behnaz Ghoraani, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the College of Engineering and Computer Science and I-Sense Fellow
- Emmanuelle Tognoli, Ph.D., a research associate professor in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science and Center for Complex Systems and Brain Sciences
- Howard Prentice, Ph.D., is a professor of biomedical science in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine
- Megan Davis, Ph.D., a research professor, FAU Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute.

Chair Yoga Improving Quality of Life for Adults with Dementia
Juyoung Park, Ph.D., lead author and an associate professor in the Phyllis and Harvey Sandler School of Social Work in the College for Design and Social Inquiry, co-conducted a pilot study to examine the effects of chair yoga compared to music intervention in older adults with moderate to severe dementia who have cognitive impairments, problems with balance or fears of falling. Results from the study show that the chair yoga group improved significantly in quality of life compared to the music intervention group, reducing their psychological symptoms and behavioral symptoms.

Julie L. Earles, Ph.D., a professor of psychology in FAU's Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College and co-author, Barbara Bjorklund, Ph.D., professor in the
psychology department,
recently authored the book, "The Journey of Adulthood, 9th Edition," published by
Pearson
. This book discusses the aspects of “successful aging,” covering growth and development from emerging adulthood to old age. This book also helps students see the influence of gender, culture, ethnicity, race, and socioeconomic background on this journey.
