Like Humans, Dolphins Face Increased Antibiotic Resistance
Researchers from  Florida Atlantic University ’s  Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute , co- conducted a 13-year study on bottlenose dolphins, that shows a significant increase in the high prevalence of antibiotic resistance, which mirrors that of humans. READ MORE.

College of Engineering and Computer Science researchers have co-developed a unique way to measure how mechanical fatigue, or the breakdown due to cyclic stretching and straining, affect biological cells . READ MORE .

'Means Girls,' both Feared and Loved

Brett Laursen , Ph.D., co-author and a professor of  psychology  in FAU’s  Charles E. Schmidt College of Science , co-conducted a study to examine different types of popular adolescents.

Results, published in the journal Child Development , identified three distinct groups of popular adolescents: prosocial popular, aggressive popular, and bistrategic popular or Machiavellian-like. The bistrategic group, which had the highest level of popularity and are both feared and loved, were described as a group of teens who can be aggressive when needed, and quickly "make nice" to smooth out any issues. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, authored the book, " Market Rules: Bankers, Presidents, and the Origins of the Great Recession, " published by University of Pennsylvania Press . The book reveals the degree to which presidents, legislators, regulators and bankers, have taken an interest in regulating the industry.
