4,000 Face Shields: A Tall Order
With major shortfalls of personal protective equipment for health care workers around the world, a team from FAU's College of Engineering and Computer Science and the Institute for Sensing and Embedded Network Systems, recently identified a simple solution to rapidly produce protective face shields for Baptist Health South Florida, the largest health care organization in the region. The team anticipates completing the requested 4,000 face shields within a week.

COVID-19 Funding and Funding Opportunities
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is devoting significant resources to COVID-19. In addition to dedicating regularly appropriated funds, to date NIH has received emergency funding for COVID-19-related activities. To receive funding as quickly as possible to the research community, NIH is using urgent and emergency competing revisions and administrative supplements to existing grant awards.

Office Updates
The Office of Research Accounting issued the following updates:
- Quarter 3 Effort Certification Reports (January – March) will be generated today, Wednesday, April 15.
- Per the Direct Cost policy, all credits issued from the cancellation of travel, such as airfare must be used towards the future purchase of travel from the same award it was originally charged. Notices from sponsors are being released on an on-going basis. Contact us if you have any questions on the cancellation of travel, effort charged on grants, etc.
- Overhead awards (also known as reinvestment) due to expire June 30, 2020, will be extended through June 30, 2025, for active FAU principle investigators.
- If you are interested in scheduling a virtual training session for post award management (session 1), contact Tanya Cohen.
- In addition to email and phones, the Research Accounting team is available via Skype, Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
