Recreation and Leisure ECC Event for

ο»ΏStudents with Visual Impairments

β€Š

On May 1, 2024, Region 3 hosted a fantastic Recreation & Leisure ECC event for students with visual impairments!

Students from multiple districts in the Region 3 area came together to experience a variety of adapted games and activities. The ECC (Expanded Core Curriculum) focuses on teaching concepts and skills that require specialized instruction for students who are blind or visually impaired, helping them compensate for reduced opportunities to learn incidentally by observing others.

In addition to the general education curriculum, students with visual impairments need instruction in the ECC from an early age. Recreation and Leisure is one of the nine areas defined in the ECC. By receiving instruction in these skills, students with visual impairments can explore, experience, and choose physical and leisure activities they enjoy, whether organized or individual.

To learn more about the Expanded Core Curriculum, visit the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired website.

Contact Justin Morton or Mary Kathryn Garcia for more information.
