Letter from Diana

It's the little things that make all the difference.

The beautiful creature in this picture proves exactly that. It is the small, soft, quiet, little things that are done consistently that keep all stable and continuing. The power in the small things is often times not measurable with the equipment and knowledge we have to this point. Even the first suspected particles - quanta - continually vibrating and traveling with light that eventually created our entire universe can still not be seen. In the teachings of Taoism, this is what is known as "downward-causation".

In our work and commitment to our wellness care, it is the same. The small, consistent things that we do on a daily. regular basis are what builds and sustains all...or lack of doing so does not. I teach my yoga trainees and remind them often that our ancestors did not make it all so complicated. They just did the same practices daily and consistent (like brushing teeth) and found amazing benefits for their health. Keep it simple yet consistent.

Stop changing all so dramatically. This program...that program...this diet...that diet...stop. In functional medicine and holistic medicine, we look at each person as a bio-individual. Once we test and see exactly what is causing the imbalances, then we can set up a maintenance plan to sustain homeostasis and will be able to sense when even the smallest shifts come to address them long before major disease. The small shifts cannot be felt when there is so much inflammation, dysbiosis, disease, and many compensatory patterns. And, each of us have a unique formula that has lead us into these states and will require our own, unique formula to get us out. Stop guessing. Let's get the imbalances resolved so that we can go back to keeping it simple, consistent, and steady with the ability to sense the small, powerful sensations and shifts that keep all in motion and alive.

Zen at the Zoo

This summer we have 3 opportunities for yoga at the Zoo!

June 1st, July 20th, & August 3rd at 8am

We will be practicing in new areas that have never been used for yoga and have some behind-the-scenes educational opportunities, too! Areas for the classes: The retile house (that's Diana teaching in there and all LOVED it!), in the Tembo Trail (the new baby elephant!!), and in the future watch for sessions in the Arctic building (the polar bear twins!) and the giraffe deck!

Definition of Yoga Therapy

Yoga therapy is the professional application of the principles and practices of yoga to promote health and well-being within a therapeutic relationship that includes personalized assessment, goal setting, lifestyle management, and yoga practices for individuals or small groups.

Yoga Therapist Training School

Diana has been working toward this for over 8 years! and here it is!

This course is for those who have completed a 200hr Yoga Teacher Program and aspire to become a Certified Yoga Therapist. Diana has been a certified yoga therapist for almost a decade and the school is now an I-AYT member school. This course will begin in January 2024 and is a 2-year program minimum. The course is open to 8 students and 4 spots are filled already.

"Diana Spiess leads an in-depth teacher training program, which challenges students to learn and put into practice those lessons. The flexibility regarding timing to complete the program is helpful, and Diana will work with students as needed. The weekend classes, anatomy intensives, Yoga Enthusiast Practice classes, and other specialty classes are fabulous options, allowing students to explore a variety of areas that can be developed further, if interested. I was challenged personally and professionally, which ultimately helped me become a better teacher. I’m also grateful for the opportunity to meet other teachers and develop friendships that will last well beyond the teacher training program! Important Zoom Class Reminders: 

  • For those participating via zoom, you must be visible on camera. We can not allow participants coming on with us without a camera option going forward for safety reasons.
  • Be signed up at least 2 hours before the class begins
  • Zoom link will be sent about 1 hour before class begins to your email 
  • Be signed in 15 minutes before class 
  • Ask all in your home to be off the internet for best reception for Zoom classes 
  • You will be on mute during Zoom classes and can send a chat message to the instructor if needed. 
  • For yoga classes, please leave savasana at the beginning or stay on the entire time to avoid being disruptive to the class.
