What's Happening at NSO?

Mission Moment

Nourishing Our Clients with RestoreU Inc. -

The Impact of NSO Donors -

Dr. Ruth Mays is a family medicine doctor, global outreach missionary, and Founder of RestoreU Inc. RestoreU Inc. was formed in 2016 to raise funds and promote initiatives to serve the people who need help the most in order to restore lives, relationships, and neighborhoods.

Dr. Mays was dedicated to creating healthy communities and became interested in working with NSO while gearing up to form a nonprofit of her own in 2016. She was also committed to feeding the unhoused population in Detroit. Mays came to know NSO after seeing our team provide unhoused individuals with services and resources to address their needs.

After seeing our street outreach firsthand, she reached out with the perfect opportunity to help our shelter residents. Mays began and continues to provide hot meals to our shelter residents throughout many years. She recently stated that she feels NSO has been a "consistent helper" throughout the neighborhoods that we serve, not just to individuals but also to families and communities.

Because of donors like Dr. Mays, we continue to be a beacon of hope for the neighborhoods we serve and continue to bridge the gap in every client's unique needs.

Welcoming the New Year with Thanks

Donation Opportunity: NSO's Community Closet

Community Closet

NSO plans to revamp its current clothing storage solution at Bell Building. We are looking for donors and volunteers to help us set up a safe, clean, and comfortable “shopping experience” for our residents and clients. We offer gently used clothing, accessories, and shoes at no cost to individuals receiving NSO services or living in NSO housing centers. The storage area is in desperate need of a better way to display and separate merchandise on shelves and racks, which will help clients easily find their sizes.

If you have plastic shelving in good condition or clothing racks that you no longer use, please contact corporateaffairs@nso-mi.org to arrange a donation drop-off.

Colorectal Kit Distribution

NSO distributed nearly 100 free colorectal kits at the Detroit Association of Black Organizations Inc's (DABO) Health Checkup Day with The Mason & Starr Radio Show of 105.9 Kiss FM.

There was also FREE:

– Blood Pressure Screenings

– COVID Vaccinations

– HIV Testing

– Breakfast

NSO is proud to join BLKHLTH and Cottonelle as an

DownThereCare Ambassador for the GoodDownThere

colorectal cancer awareness campaign!
