Fog Stormwater

Help Keep Our Drains Clear and Environmentally Safe

Did you know that what goes down your drain affects our entire community? Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) might seem harmless when you pour them down the sink, but they can cause serious problems for our plumbing and environment.

FOG includes fats from meats, cooking oils, butter, and even dairy products. When these substances cool and solidify in your pipes, they can create blockages over time. This buildup leads to costly repairs and can cause sewage backups in your neighborhood.

Think of it this way: what goes down your drain doesn't just disappear. It travels through our sewer system, where FOG can accumulate in large pipes beneath our streets. If these pipes become blocked, it could lead to major raw sewage spills into local waterways.

Together, we can prevent these issues by properly disposing of FOG. Here's how you can help:

  • Pour fats, oils, and grease into a disposable container (like a jar or can) and throw it in the trash once it solidifies.
  • Wipe pots, pans, and dishes with a paper towel before washing to capture excess FOG.
  • Use sink strainers to catch food scraps and dispose of them in the trash.

By taking these simple steps, you're protecting your home, our community, and our environment. Let's work together to keep our drains clear and our waterways clean!

Rideshare Advisory for July 4

Planning to use a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft to get to Brengle Terrace Park on July 4th? Keep in mind that due to heavy traffic and street closures near the park, expect longer wait times. Rideshare pickups and drop-offs might need to happen outside the park's boundaries. After the fireworks, rideshare pickups inside the park won't be available.

There are no shuttles provided, so you may need to walk to nearby spots like Vale Terrace Drive and Williamston Street, Williamston Street and E. Vista Way, or Vale Terrace Drive and E. Vista Way to meet your rideshare after the fireworks.
