DECEMBER 2022

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dani_website.jpg

Greetings,

It is hard to believe 2022 is coming to a close as we are already in the midst of the holiday season. There is no more appropriate time to announce that AREA has just been given a significant gift: After nearly a year of hard work, the IRS has notified us that we are now a 501(c)(3) charitable organization!

This big win is yet another checkmark on the way to realizing the three clear-cut goals outlined in our five-year AREA 1.0 Strategic Plan:

  • GOAL 1 - Attract businesses, jobs, and investment
  • GOAL 2 - Attract, retain and align talent
  • GOAL 3 - Eliminate barriers to regional competitiveness.

In just a year since adopting the plan, we have already modernized the organization by adjusting our articles of incorporation and bylaws to allow for public sector participation and support, changed our name to reflect a truly regional approach to economic development, raised significant funding through a capital campaign and finally — transformed from a 501(c)(6) to a 501(c)(3) public charity.

This now enables AREA to pursue grant and foundation funding to further grow our organizational capacity and deliver a greater value proposition to the greater Albuquerque community by expanding our regional economic development work like never before.

Cheers,
