Dear NJAMFT,

We hope this update finds you healthy and well. We want to follow up on a few important matters that impact our profession. This is a 🗣CALL TO ACTION.

Please review the following petition for rulemaking that the former NJAMFT-IA Legislative Committee had submitted to the MFT Board of Examiners in June of 2021: Rule Proposal 53 N.J.R. 2132(a).

See also: Consumer Affairs - Proposals for information. It is open for public comment until February 18, 2022. This change is critical in helping the LAMFT function as was intended - to allow recent graduates to be licensed upon completion of their coursework in order to apply for a job, versus requiring them to have a job offer before being permitted to apply for the LAMFT as it now stands. Please send your comments in SUPPORT or AGAINST this petition to: DCAProposal@dca.lps.state.nj.us and include the following in your email:

  1. Email Subject Line: Rule Proposal Subject
  2. Email Body: Comments to the Rule Proposal, Name, Affiliation and Contact Information (email address and telephone number).

If you want this to move forward, your input is necessary. Pass this far and wide and offer your comments ASAP.

In addition, there is a nationwide petition circulating regarding the No Surprises Act (see previous Newsletter for details: NJAMFT NYE Newsletter). You can sign this petition at: Petition No Surprises Act. It does a really great job of explaining exactly why this mandate did not consider mental health. We encourage you to sign if you share these concerns.

We also encourage you to let your voice be heard about these matters that directly impact the present and future of our profession.

With gratitude,

Jaime L. Gilmore, LMFT
