ASTEC’s Winter Festival is just around the corner! Don’t miss this free family holiday event for all ages. There will be a photo booth, face painting, craft tables, snowball toss, bingo, movie planetarium tent, student music performances, and even karaoke just to name just a few!

Paint a giant blank canvas with a fun interactive, app-enabled Sphero® robot ball from our partners at, Engage Learning. The robot ball is dipped in paint and rolled over a canvas using an iPad to control the ball’s movements. Parents and students can learn more about STEM education while making a beautiful collaborative painting!

Students in grades PreK-9th grade must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

WINTER FESTIVAL DECORATIONS IN PROGRESS

Ms. Sarah Morgan's ASTEC High School art class used negative and positive space and symmetry for this Winter Festival decoration project. Ms. Morgan said, "The scholars have been working hard on decorations inspired by Papel Picado!"

According to Wikipedia, Papel Picado is a traditional Mexican decorative craft made by cutting elaborate designs into sheets of tissue paper.

La clase de arte de ASTEC High School de Ms. Sarah Morgan utilizó el espacio negativo y positivo y la simetría para este proyecto de decoración del Festival de Invierno. La Sra. Morgan dijo: "¡Los alumnos han estado trabajando duro en decoraciones inspiradas en el Papel Picado!".

Según Wikipedia, el Papel Picado es una artesanía decorativa tradicional mexicana que se realiza recortando elaborados diseños en hojas de papel de seda.

The electricity and atmosphere of ASTEC’s first basketball game were like playoff basketball and this was only game #1! I wasn’t sure what to expect but it is so great to be part of something like this and it was the hope of so much support from all the fans that brought me to ASTEC as the Athletic Director. 

The kids never quit, the fans never let up, and the cheerleaders never stopped fueling the frenzy! It’s just amazing to see how a little hope and belief can change our scholars' worlds.

Thank you to Coaches Dustin Welch and Cody Clark for all their hard work and for the support of ASTEC’s administration team and support staff. Headmaster Casey Rainbolt was taking tickets at the door and Superintendent Shannon Grimes worked overtime and put in a ton of personal sweat equity to help get everything and everyone in place.

Teamwork makes the dream work!

BASKETBALL SCHEDULE CHANGES

Please note the following basketball schedule change: OKC Knights games originally scheduled for Friday, December 6th have been rescheduled for Tuesday, December 13. Middle school girls will tip off at 4:30 pm followed by the middle school boys at 5:30 pm. Varsity girls will play at 6:30 pm followed by the Varsity boys at 8:00 pm.

Save The Date! ASTEC’s basketball homecoming game has been moved to January 13 vs Putnam Heights Academy.

COLLEGE & CAREER FAIR

PROM VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

ASTEC junior/senior prom sponsors are looking for more 11th-grade volunteers to join the Prom Committee to start planning the ASTEC Junior/Senior 2023 Prom.

Interested juniors should see Ms. Dormiani in room CC-1 the College and Career Center by Friday, December 16.

FOOD BACKPACKS

ASTEC offers free food backpacks to ASTEC Middle School and ASTEC High School students and their families each Friday during the school year. The backpacks will be filled with food pantry items that scholars can take home to their families.

If your family needs extra help with food, please call 405-947-6272 or come to the ASTEC Middle School office and ask to speak with Ms. Selina Jolly, the school's bilingual counselor.

ASTEC ofrece mochilas de alimentos gratuitas a los estudiantes de la Escuela Media y Secundaria de ASTEC y a sus familias cada viernes durante el año escolar. Las mochilas estarán llenas de artículos de la despensa de alimentos que los estudiantes pueden llevar a casa a sus familias.

DRESS FOR WINTER

As temperatures get colder remember to bundle up! Wear a hat and gloves and a thick, insulated coat. Wear shoes made for colder temperatures and layer your clothes to adjust for fluctuations in inside and outside temperatures.
