Following his mother’s ghost, Nadir uncovers the silences kept in the name of survival by his own community, his own family, and within himself, and discovers the family that was there all along. The Thirty Names of Night is a timely exploration of how we all search for and ultimately embrace who we are.

Eyes That Kiss in the Corners by Joanna Ho, ill. by Dung Ho (on sale 1/5): A stunning celebration of a young girl’s eyes and the generations of women in her family with whom she shares them, this book invites girls to recognize their own unique beauty and the strength of self-love. Poetry and breath-taking illustrations weave a celebration of story, the magic of the female, and the power of love. Read this with all the women and girls in your life who make your kingdom whole. - Linda

Root Magic by Eden Royce (on sale 1/5): Gran, Jez's best friend and the matriarch of her family, has just passed away, leaving the rootwork to be carried on by their uncle, Doc, who now offers to train Jez and her brother Jay in their family legacy. South Carolina in 1963 is a place of both natural and supernatural evils, but even old enemies and ways must change. This is a great adventure intertwined with important lessons about accepting new paths and the wisdom of children. - Linda

Wings of Ebony by J. Elle (on sale 1/26): I won’t be telling you much about this tale of two cities because I don’t want to ruin the revelations peeled away by Rue Jelani Akintola. Know that she is about to reveal Ghazan, a fantastic world intricately woven into a poor Houston neighborhood known as East Row, both imbedded with the problems of colonialism and racism. But there is magic here, magic that comes from ripping out what lies deeply buried in our historical myths to embrace the truth. - Linda
