Recently the family of a U.S. Navy Veteran, who had received our Veterans Services flyer from a friend, walked into our Glen Cove center seeking resources for their brother who was in need of housing and health care.
The Case Manager for our CCBHC (Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic) made contact with the veteran in the field and shared that she too, is a Navy Veteran. The Case Manager made plans to visit the veteran the next day. Unfortunately, he declined any immediate assistance, but indicated that he would reach out when he was ready to receive help.
The Veterans Case Manager continued to engage both the Veteran and the family, and a few weeks later the family called to indicate that the Veteran was willing to accept the referral to a house. The Case Manager met the Veteran at a local library to begin the intake process, and we are glad to report that later that day the Veteran entered a Veterans shelter program.
