Tonight's City Council meeting agenda item #21 outlines the CIP budget for next year. We have confirmed that despite the city staff recommendation, a city council member will push to defund or defer the Regnart Creek Trail.

to prevent it from being defunded.
As everyone knows, there has been consistent opposition at every council meeting from the same residents living next to the trail. The Regnart Creek Trail project has gone through numerous approvals, starting back in 2016 when it was approved unanimously in the public-driven Bike Plan, including a nine-hour approval meeting in September 2019. However, these same residents still continue to push to kill the project or add extreme costs to the project, such as $3-5 million (for a $2 million dollar project) for specialty concrete walls along the back of their properties, many of which are 40 feet away from the proposed trail.
This is a blatant and transparent attempt to make the trail too expensive to build.
Since 2016, there have been numerous public workshops, walks, 1-on-1 discussions between Cupertino staff and homeowners adjacent to the trail, a nearly 9-hour council hearing and vote at the September 17, 2019 meeting where the council voted unanimously to proceed while adding $150,000 for fencing BEYOND staff's recommendation. The city noise and environmental study report clearly states there is no significant noise issue expected.
There is simply no justification for demanding an expensive concrete wall at this late juncture, except to try to kill the trail.
