MPO Hosts Thriving Communities Program
ο»ΏVirtual Kick Off Event
| |
Recognizing the growing region's housing and transportation challenges, the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) awarded our region technical support through the Thriving Communities Program (TCP). The TCP is designed to give cities the information and resources needed to foster Transit Oriented Development in the municipalities that will benefit the most. The Broward MPO hosted the TCP Virtual Kick-Off Event on Thursday, June 20, with nearly 60 guests in attendance, including representatives from 18 cities, Broward County, FDOT, and Tri-Rail. The event provided an initial overview of the Thriving Communities Program and set the stage for future coordination and opportunities for capacity building with the project team and federal agencies. Thank you to everyone who joined us!
Through the TCP, Broward MPO, in collaboration with its community partners, will create the Central Broward Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Tool Kit, a policy foundation and design framework to realize equitable benefits of existing and future transportation improvements throughout Central Broward County (between the Turnpike and I-95 from the north to south county boundaries). The TOD Tool Kit will provide the MPO and municipalities with resources and strategies for leveraging investments in transit to support land use and economic opportunity.
