| | Life’s Just Better in the Island City! In April, the National Civic League selected Wilton Manors as a finalist for its 2024 All-America City Award. This award highlights Wilton Manor’s commitment to creating a safe, sustainable, and welcoming community for all to enjoy. The award also recognized the transformation of Wilton Dr with pedestrian-friendly, complete street amenities. Residents and tourists from around the world visit Wilton Dr for its many stores, restaurants, and nightclubs, as well as annual events such as the Stonewall Pride Parade and Street Festival. However, Wilton Manors is much more than Wilton Dr. Our City is composed of charming neighborhoods, thriving business districts, vibrant parks, and community facilities. The City has long imagined itself as a walkable, bicycle-friendly community. To do so, it faces the challenge of integrating increasing vehicular traffic flowing throughout the Island City. Starting in January 2023, the city was fortunate to receive technical assistance from the Broward MPO to develop the City’s first Transportation Master Plan. Over the next eighteen months, city staff worked directly with Broward MPO City Services to develop a plan that identified program-ready projects intended to improve safety, walkability, quality of life, and economic development. In addition to being data-driven, the plan was developed based on feedback from frequent public engagement and collaboration with partners such as Broward County and FDOT. Wilton Manors appreciates all the time and input from the stakeholders. The City recently adopted the TMP, which identifies the necessary improvements to the transportation network in order to provide a safe and convenient multimodal transportation system. We are eager to continue collaboration with our partners to implement over $60 million worth of locally supported transportation projects to benefit all of the residents and visitors to Wilton Manors.
Sincerely,
Commissioner Chris Caputo

Broward MPO to Host
National Highway Institute Course
| |
The Broward MPO is hosting a National Highway Institute (NHI) Course, Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL), on October 1-2, 2024. The two-day instructor-led course will focus on how integrating PEL into the transportation planning and environmental review processes promotes more informed decision-making and accelerated project delivery. As a participant, you will learn and discuss the success of PEL practices, the benefits of PEL, the interfaces between planning and environmental review processes, PEL approaches using authorities associated with planning and environmental review, and how to inform, use or adopt planning information in the environmental review process. Additional topics include general considerations for using any PEL approach, the methods for developing purpose and need during planning for the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), screening and eliminating unreasonable alternatives during planning, the role of consultation, coordination, and public involvement in PEL, documentation in a PEL approach, and action strategies to advance PEL in your State or region. The fee to attend is $530 per participant. | |
