UW-Parkside to Open New Human Identification and Forensic Anthropology Lab

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside will be debuting a new Human Identification and Forensic Anthropology Lab for the Spring 2024 semester. The fully functioning forensic anthropology facility will be capable of providing a full and detailed biological profile of unknown decedents. Using the most up-to-date statistical software available, the analyses will be able to include metric and non-metric data that can be useful in current cases, “cold cases,” and even historical and archeological cases.

In addition to traditional forensic anthropological analyses, the lab is equipped to handle DNA extractions from bone and dental tissue. It can be extremely difficult and time-consuming to get DNA from bones, especially old or damaged samples. Dr. Keith Biddle, a forensic and molecular anthropologist will serve as the lab manager.

UW-Parkside Displays High School Students’ Art

Since 2016, The University of Wisconsin-Parkside has hosted “the Art Party.” Each year, high school art students from Southeast Wisconsin are invited to exhibit the best of their work at the university. UW-Parkside was thrilled to welcome over 70 student participants and hang more than 80 works of art in the Emile Mathis Gallery. This year, fifteen schools participated from Arrowhead down to Waterford Union High School with schools from RUSD to KUSD in the middle.

The exhibition was a “juried show,” meaning three UW-Parkside art professors selected their favorite pieces in six categories. The judges awarded best painting to Grecia Tenorio from Bradford High School. “Being an award winner made me feel really special and appreciated and, like, my hard work was worth it,” Ms. Tenorio said.

Students worked in a large variety of media—painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, digital photography, sculpture, and mixed media. Five additional students received recognition for their outstanding artwork.

Administrative Transformation Program (ATP) Updates

Workday Go-Live Revised to 2025

On October 6, 2023, the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents approved a revised timeline for the Administrative Transformation Program Workday implementation. Go-live is now scheduled for July 2025, revised from July 2024. End-user training will begin in March 2025.

The revision will provide adequate time to prepare for a successful implementation. We will continue to partner with ATP as we get ready for the transition to Workday.

ATP will standardize finance, human resources, and research administration processes, such as payroll and expense reporting, across the UW System. To learn more about Workday and subscribe to the ATP Touchpoints newsletter, visit the ATP website.

ATP Website

What Is ATP?

The Administrative Transformation Program (ATP) is on a mission to rebuild finance, human resources, and research administration systems at every institution within the University of Wisconsin System. The goal is to reduce the complexity of the current administrative environment and refocus valuable staff time on UW’s mission of education, research, and outreach.

To make this vision a reality, we’re working with people across the UW to standardize processes and implement new, best-in-class technology to support these essential functions.

Technology

To standardize business processes and integrate our systems, ATP will implement Workday and Huron Research Suite to replace HRS, SFS, and hundreds of ancillary systems across the UW.

People

ATP's success depends on knowledgeable staff who apply their time, talent, and expertise — both on and off the program team.

Process

Our business process redesign work is based on a tiered governance structure and tested methodology that includes faculty and staff from across the UW System.

SUSTAINABILITY SPOTLIGHT

UW-Parkside Takes Stock of Recycling Initiatives Ahead of National Recycling Day

In an era marked by growing environmental concerns, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside is reaffirming a commitment to sustainability and recycling as National Recycling Day approaches on Nov. 15. The university is working to lead by example, with an array of recycling initiatives aimed at minimizing waste and encouraging sustainable living across the campus.

One of the key features of UW-Parkside's recycling efforts is the strategic placement of recycling bins throughout the campus. These conveniently located bins make it easy for students and faculty to dispose of recyclables properly. To further simplify the process, the university has adopted a single-stream recycling system, offered through their partnership with Waste Management. This approach allows users to mix all recyclables in a single bin, making recycling a breeze for everyone on campus.

EV Charging is Coming to UW-Parkside!

Why is UW-Parkside installing electric vehicle charging stations?

UW-Parkside is committed to being a leader in the community by showcasing emerging technologies. The number of electric vehicles present on campus has increased each year for both commuter and residential students. There are currently no on-campus options for residential students to charge their vehicles. For off-campus students and staff who rent, charging access can present a barrier to entry if the property manager does not install on-property charging options. Providing this convenient amenity will help meet the needs of students, staff, and guests to our campus and improve their experience. Station usage data can also be worked into curriculum, providing students with real-world understanding of how these technologies work.

When will the stations be up and operating?

The stations are planned to be operational in fall of 2023. Stay tuned - we will host an opening event to allow staff and students to check out the new installation and practice using the chargers!

FM Work Order System Changes

On Monday, Dec. 18 Facilities Management will be upgrading our TMA database. The upgrade is expected to be completed by the end of the day on Monday. We will then need to do a few checks of the system before resuming business as usual.

Due to this upgrade, the iService Desk link and system will be deactivated at the end of the day on Friday, December 15th.

A new Facilities Request Form (similar to iService Desk) will be created for entering work requests for Facilities Management. The new form will have a link to it on the Facilities Management website, just like iService Desk. You will need to use the new form to enter work requests, as the old iService desk form and link will no longer work.

If you have any work requests that need to be entered after iService Desk is deactivated and before the new Facilities Request Form is activated, please contact the FM office at x2228 or email us at fm@uwp.edu.

We will send an email once the conversion has been completed and the new form is activated.
