Student Regent Jenn Staton Explains Why She Chose UW-Parkside

Why UW-Parkside? The answer for Jenn Staton, a University of Wisconsin-Parkside student regent and Army veteran, is simple. The people, the programs, and the academic opportunities, but most of all, UW-Parkside’s emphasis on creating your own path at your own pace.

“They [the faculty] really helped me grow as a student and I don't think they realize how important that was in my life, because I had zero confidence [before],” said Staton. “They really care about student success, so I know I’m exactly where I need to be,” she continued.

Sustainability Spotlight: De Simone Arena Lighting Project

Some subtle but important changes have been occurring throughout the University of Wisconsin-Parkside campus in recent years. The facilities management department has been identifying projects on campus to help improve energy efficiency in our buildings and on campus grounds. Most of UW-Parkside’s campus was constructed over 50 years ago, and improvements in technology are available to save energy and reduce utility costs.

One area of focus has been on exchanging outdated light fixtures to higher efficiency units. Most commonly, this involves swapping a fluorescent lamp for a light-emitting diode (LED). Converting lighting fixtures to LEDs has several benefits.

LEDs are typically over 50% more energy efficient than fluorescent fixtures. This means an LED will emit the same amount of light at a fraction of the energy expenditure. This reduces electricity expenses over time and reduces the school’s dependence on fossil fuels for electricity needs. LEDs also last longer than most other bulbs, reducing maintenance and replacement costs.

Parking Permits Available

Faculty and staff are able to purchase 2023-2024 parking permits by the following methods:

Payroll deduction:  Equal after-tax deductions will be made from your paycheck during the year.  Certain employees such as LTE’s, other part-time employees, and contract employees are not eligible for payroll deduction.  If you are not sure if you are eligible for payroll deduction, please contact Human Resources. Payroll deduction is available as an option during August & September 2023 onlyIf you are eligible, University Police highly recommends using this option.

  • If you have SOLAR access, you may log in to your SOLAR account and then under “Self Service,” choose “Purchase Parking Permit.” Select the type of permit and payroll deduction. Your transaction will be processed, and your permit will be sent by campus mail to the office or room listed in the UW-Parkside directory. If you need to update your office location, contact Human Resources.
  • Those without SOLAR access who are permanent faculty/staff (not LTE’s, other part-time employees and contract employees) may click here https://uwparkside.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8q9qIJSPwvCIEmx and fill out the order form. You will receive a confirmation email and your permit will be sent to you by campus mail.

Pay by credit card, check, or money order:

  • If you have SOLAR access and would like to order the permit ahead of picking it up, you may log in to your SOLAR account and under “Self Service,” choose “Purchase Parking Permit.” Select the type of permit and payment method. Stop by UWPPD, Tallent Hall, room 188 to obtain your permit and pay.
  • Those without SOLAR access, LTE, other part-time employees, or contract employees need to come to the UWPPD in person, in Tallent Hall room 188, to obtain a permit.

At Parkside, we enjoy convenient parking options and our facilities team does a great job maintaining our parking areas, roadways and walkways. Parkside continues to be near the UW System average.

The parking program is self-funded and not supported by tuition or tax dollars. Your purchase of a parking permit sponsors the following:

Public safety

Our campus is a safe place to learn, work and visit. It is also an open and public environment. The UW-Parkside Police and Public Safety Department assists motorists with jump starts, small amounts of fuel, airing of low tires, and opening locked car doors.

Parking lot maintenance

Permit fees pay for snow removal, ice control, striping, lighting, and asphalt repair in the parking areas.

Bond payments and future expenditures

Bonds that financed new parking areas for the Student Center and The Rita are being repaid. Revenue from permit fees covers these payments and helps build funds for future renovation and maintenance of parking areas.

Fall Class Room Changes

The Reservation’s office has received the academic rooms from the Registrar’s Office. If you are interested in changing your classroom assignment this semester, please be sure and contact the Reservations Office by email to reservations@uwp.edu.

Just a reminder that many of the academic classrooms are used around class schedules. This happens more in the evenings for other university programs and community events. Please do not just move to a classroom because it looks like a room is not being used. There will be event/s or an academic class later in the semester scheduled in academic classrooms and we don’t want any confusion.

Civic Action Plan

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside seeks to live the Wisconsin Idea as an authentic community partner and steward of place as well as an effective laboratory for its students to learn through community engagement. By signing the Campus Compact Civic Action Statement in November 2015, Chancellor Deborah Ford pledged to develop a plan that deepens and strengthens the campus commitment to community engagement and provides guidance for implementation of action steps to do so. The plan was created through the efforts of a team of faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners who collected input and feedback during 2016. This included focus groups, facilitated discussions, and surveys of students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Administrative Transformation Program (ATP) Updates

What Is ATP?

The Administrative Transformation Program (ATP) is on a mission to rebuild finance, human resources, and research administration systems at every institution within the University of Wisconsin System. The goal is to reduce the complexity of the current administrative environment and refocus valuable staff time on UW’s mission of education, research, and outreach.

To make this vision a reality, we’re working with people across the UW to standardize processes and implement new, best-in-class technology to support these essential functions.

Technology

To standardize business processes and integrate our systems, ATP will implement Workday and Huron Research Suite to replace HRS, SFS, and hundreds of ancillary systems across the UW.

People

ATP's success depends on knowledgeable staff who apply their time, talent, and expertise — both on and off the program team.

Process

Our business process redesign work is based on a tiered governance structure and tested methodology that includes faculty and staff from across the UW System.

Watch the Administrative Transformation Program (ATP) Workday Walkthrough #9: Introducing Banking and Settlement in Workday

ATP will conduct monthly Workday Walkthroughs on a variety of topics. Recordings are available to anyone with a UW login. This walkthrough provides an overview of how payments will be settled and reconciled in Workday.
