UW-Parkside Hosts 6th Annual Parkside Day

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside is excited to announce the 6th annual Parkside Day, presented by HARIBO of America, on Wednesday, April 10. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members are invited to participate in this day of service, celebration, and giving in support of UW-Parkside. There will be various opportunities to get involved throughout the day.

Parkside Day is a 24-hour event that raises funds for the university and celebrates UW-Parkside Ranger pride. Over Parkside Day’s first five years, 5,558 individuals have participated; 3,479 donors have generously given over $770,000; and 834 volunteers have given 1,205 hours of their time. With a great deal of generous support, Parkside Day has grown 982% in its lifetime.

As part of the initiative, volunteers will kick off the efforts on Parkside Day, April 10, by painting windows with patterns as a temporary solution to break up reflections and assist birds in avoiding collisions.

Severe Weather Awareness Week: April 8-12

Tornado Drill Day on April 11, 2024

Wisconsin’s annual statewide tornado drill is Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 1:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.  We ask you do the following:

  • Please take a moment to give consideration where you would seek shelter whether at home or while on campus.
  • Please review our campus severe weather procedures noted below.

As in years past, we will still activate our campus Ranger Alert System at both 1:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Students are “opt-out” for Ranger Alert; faculty and staff must “opt-in.” Please register or change your contact information at: https://www.uwp.edu/live/offices/universitypolice/rangeralert.cfm.

If there is a threat of severe weather on April 11, the statewide drills will be postponed until Friday, April 12. If severe weather is also expected on Friday, the drill will be cancelled.

The state-wide drill no longer includes a mock public Emergency Alert System (EAS) tornado watch/warning issued by the National Weather Service on local broadcast radio and TV. Neither Kenosha or Racine county emergency management departments will activate the outdoor tornado sirens; therefore, our on-campus siren located at the Sports & Activities Center won’t sound. The Kenosha County outdoor sirens, including our siren at the SAC, will still be tested on the third Saturday of the month at 10:30 a.m.

Faculty and Staff Volunteers Needed: Bridging the Divide Civil Discourse Event Series

The College of Social Sciences and Professional Studies is looking for 4-6 faculty members to serve as moderators for the Bridging the Divide Civil Discourse Event Series for each event. Their role will be to present and encourage students to follow the discussion guides that will be presented at each event.

  • Apr 3 – Alumni Room
  • Apr 24 – Alumni Room

Pregnant and Expecting Parents in the Classroom:

Rights Under Title IX

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (“Title IX”), 20 U.S.C. §1681 est seq., is a Federal Civil Rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex—including pregnancy and parental status—in educational programs and activities.

  • Should a pregnant student have specific classroom needs (e.g. larger desk, elevator access, ability to make frequent trips to the restroom, or other), faculty, staff, and other university personnel are required to comply.

  • Any absences related to pregnancy or childbirth must be excused for as long as medical personnel deems necessary; this includes medical appointments.

  • Students returning to class must be allowed to return to the same academic status as before the medical leave began and given the opportunity to make up any work missed during the leave. This includes an opportunity to make-up “class participation” points that the student missed by virtue of not being in class.

It is important to note that pregnant or parenting students are held to the same level of academic standards and must meet the learning objectives that have been set for the course. Students must work with the Accessibility Services Office and their faculty to determine reasonable accommodations that will allow them to complete all work and achieve course outcomes.

If students have any questions or concerns, they may contact Dr. Renee Kirby in the Accessibility Services Office, kirby@uwp.

Administrative Transformation Program (ATP) Updates

Workday Go-Live Revised to 2025

The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents approved a revised timeline for the Administrative Transformation Program Workday implementation. Go-live is now scheduled for July 2025, revised from July 2024. End-user training will begin in March 2025.

The revision will provide adequate time to prepare for a successful implementation. We will continue to partner with ATP as we get ready for the transition to Workday.

ATP will standardize finance, human resources, and research administration processes, such as payroll and expense reporting, across the UW System. To learn more about Workday and subscribe to the ATP Touchpoints newsletter, visit the ATP website.

What Is ATP?

The Administrative Transformation Program (ATP) is on a mission to rebuild finance, human resources, and research administration systems at every institution within the University of Wisconsin System. The goal is to reduce the complexity of the current administrative environment and refocus valuable staff time on UW’s mission of education, research, and outreach.

To make this vision a reality, we’re working with people across the UW to standardize processes and implement new, best-in-class technology to support these essential functions.

Technology

To standardize business processes and integrate our systems, ATP will implement Workday and Huron Research Suite to replace HRS, SFS, and hundreds of ancillary systems across the UW.

People

ATP's success depends on knowledgeable staff who apply their time, talent, and expertise — both on and off the program team.

Process

Our business process redesign work is based on a tiered governance structure and tested methodology that includes faculty and staff from across the UW System.

  • If needed, apply for a UW System Corporate Travel Card or UW Systems Procurement Card
  • Review guides on how to complete reimbursement of airfare and travel agency fees.
