Congresswoman Julia Brownley Presents the City with Funding for the Bikeway Master Plan

In Spring 2024, Congresswoman Julia Brownley announced that she had secured $10.3 million for community projects in the Fiscal Year 2024 Spending Package. The City is excited to share that over 10% of her secured funding will be to support the City of Agoura Hills Bikeway Master Plan Implementation.

The City Council and staff welcomed the Congresswoman to Agoura Hills on July 16 for a check presentation to celebrate. This funding will help the City in implementing Phase 2 of the Bikeway Master Plan, which includes design and construction of new Class II bike lanes, Class IV bikeways (protected bike lanes), and bike detection treatments at signalized intersections. The plan also proposes approximately 1.495 miles of Class II, 2.99 MILES OF Class IV, and bike detection treatment at 13 signalized intersections.

Benefits to the Agoura Hills community will include:

  • Over 20 miles of connected lanes in the City that allow for safe alternative transportation to the community
  • Allow for key residential areas to travel safely to economic and recreation centers
  • Includes construction of both bike lane construction and roadway improvements to meet safety standards
  • Reducing the overall carbon footprint to encourage alternative modes of transportation, getting us closer to our goal of carbon neutrality and improved health throughout the City
  • Implementing these facilities in parallel with affordable housing applications already coming in, the City hopes to make living and working in the City possible for low-income residents without a motorized vehicle

Simplified ADU Solutions: New Pre-Approved Plans for Agoura Hills Homeowners

The City of Agoura Hills provides pre-approved ADU plans free of charge. These plans reduce the time and costs associated with constructing an ADU. They streamline the planning approval process and provide architectural plans in advance. There are three floorplans available with three architectural variations for each.

ADUs are independent dwelling units, which are attached or detached to an existing single-family residence. Benefits of ADUs:

  • Generate additional monthly income when used as a rental unit
  • Benefit renters as they are often an affordable housing option
  • A great option for family members, such as aging parents, students, or caretakers.

Leash Law... Keep Them Secure and Safe

Our dogs are our best friends and family to many. While dogs love to roam freely, it is important when at our local parks and on the public rights of way, they are under the full control of their owner (i.e., on a leash). The Los Angeles County Animal Control Code, Title 10, adopted by reference in the City, requires pet owners to have their dogs on a leash while on public property or common areas of private property. When visiting local parks, please ensure your dog(s) is on a leash, as there are other patrons at our local parks and public property who may not be comfortable with our four-legged friends roaming freely. This also helps control those occasions where two or more dogs may get into an altercation, that may, unfortunately, result in an injury to the dog(s) and owners attempting to stop the altercation. We want to avoid this for the benefit of all.

The safety of neighbors, residents, visitors, pets, and pet owners at our local parks is vital. Help keep them secure and safe. As a reminder: 1) Animal Control officers do regularly patrol our parks and public property areas and can issue citations for off-leash dogs, and 2) when walking our dogs, please remember to carry a โ€œdoggie bagโ€ for your best friend.
