People with Purpose 2021 -- Final Report
We are humbled by the generosity of our People with Purpose Pink Pajama Party sponsors, donors, and volunteers. Together we raised over $98,000 net!

The funds will benefit our Assistance Programs which provide post-surgical products, expert assessment and fitting services by our compassionate Breast Care Specialists, and financial assistance for patients whose insurance co-pays are financially burdensome.

To illustrate your donation impact, consider our patient "Reena," an under-insured bilateral mastectomy patient. People with Purpose funds will provide Reena and as many as 100 additional patients like her with specialty bras and breast forms that restore their sense of HERS -- Hope, Empowerment, Renewal, and Support.

If you have not yet donated or wish to give again, remember that the need is constant -- 1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. With you by our side, HERS will continue to be "a soft place to fall" for patients impacted by this terrible disease.

You may donate securely online via PayPal or mail your contribution to:

Grant News
To Celebrate Life

Receiving news of approved grants always fills our office with excitement and our hearts with gratitude so, naturally, we let out cheers when we learned that Marin-based nonprofit To Celebrate Life approved our request for Lymphedema Project funding.

The Foundation's members, donors, and volunteers are an incredibly gracious and generous team. We look forward each year to their site visit and are honored to be one of 17 Bay Area nonprofits to receive a grant this year.

Their $12,000 gift will provide under-served patients with compression gloves, gauntlets, and sleeves which will help alleviate the pain, swelling, and other symptoms of this physically and emotionally painful condition.

Find out more about To Celebrate Life at https://tocelebratelife.org/ and be sure to save the date for their premier fundraising event, Stepping Out Gala, which will take place on Saturday, October 23, 2021. Details will be available soon on their website!
Tri-City Rotary Clinic

We let our more cheers when we learned that the Tri-City Rotary Clinic, a joint program of the Fremont, Newark, Union City area Rotary Clubs, notified us that they have pledged to provide $500 per month for one year in support of our Lymphedema Project!

The funds - a total of $6,000 -- will provide compression garments to under-served patients to alleviate the painful and disfiguring symptoms of lymphedema. Visit the Fremont Morning Rotary Club's Tri-City Clinic information page to find out more about their dedication to partnering with local community organizations that aid the health needs of the unhoused, domestic violence survivors, and other individuals in need.

And if you're curious about how Clinic raises funds, read about their "Hot Chili Pepper Challenge" here and here.

We are honored to be among the numerous Tri-Cities nonprofits to receive a Rotary Clinic grant.

Volunteer Spotlight
Our devoted volunteers never cease to amaze us! Whether they provide Board of Directors leadership, create comforting patient ChemoCare bags (Vicki Goss), cheerfully update our website (Lisa Stambaugh) or show up every week to help with administrative tasks (Bobbi, Cathy, and Lisa K.), our volunteers' kindness, generosity, and dedication uplift our patients and our team.

This "Volunteer Spotlight" is a new monthly feature to highlight the wonderful work of two volunteers. Please join us in giving a huge round of applause to...
Anjali Rao/Yoga Anjali

A member of the HERS Board since 2018, Anjali shows her love for HERS in many ways. She faithfully supports our Assistance Programs along with her husband and melds her passion as a yoga instructor with her hands-on HERS work, providing yoga instruction as a gentle option to walking or running at our annual 5k/10k Walk/Run event.

Anjali has also graciously shared her survivor story in our most recent informational video and thoughtfully shares her yoga class recordings with our team so we may practice much-needed self care. Anjali has also hosted fundraiser yoga classes and tirelessly advocates about our services. Thank you, Anjali!

Ramil Sumalpong/Iconic Lab Photography

Ramil is a professional photographer who has faithfully captured beautiful images at our spring and fall fundraising events since 2012. We have Ramil to thank for albums that capture poignant and jubilant moments such as a breast cancer survivor participating in Elaine's Circle or a HERS Award recipient being honored at our annual People with Purpose event.

Ramil was recently profiled in Fremont's Tri-City Voice. Read about his efforts as a HERS volunteer as well as his work to provide Bay Area healthcare professionals during the pandemic via his self-funded 3-D face shield printing project. Thank you, Ramil!
