Because of Senator Warren’s failed policies, Massachusetts is now a border state. The migrant crisis is costing taxpayers $1-2 billion a year. Politicians that care more about their big donors and special interest groups are ignoring the problem. I see the migrant crisis impact throughout the state and constantly hear from voters about the issue. Immigration reform was already one of my top issues for my campaign, so when I heard the Melnea A. Cass Recreational Center was being used as a migrant shelter, I decided to visit the southern border.
I grew up in one of the most dangerous cities in America. My mother relied on food stamps despite working full-time, and still we sometimes went to bed hungry. I know how easy it is for kids in inner-cities to get swept up in drugs and violence because of the neighborhood they live in.
When I was in law school, I lived in Roxbury. I know how important a rec center is for kids and teens because it provides structure, sports, and mentorship that is crucial during formative years. It is absolutely unacceptable that these kids and teens pay the price for our politicians’ failures.
Twenty-fire years ago, I was stationed in Yuma, Arizona. I was the chief prosecutor for the base and involved in drug busts. I was shocked to discover the situation is so much worse. Fifty percent of the fentanyl that tears apart our communities comes through the Yuma border crossing. Twelve million illegal migrants have crossed the border. It is a national security and a humanitarian crisis. As your Senator, I will fight to secure the border, end catch and release, and fight to reform the asylum process, while expanding legal immigration.
