It's All About You Capital You, That Is!

Meant to engage, inspire and inform the University community with news and stories of what’s happening, Capital You is the biweekly online communication tool for all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends.

 

If you would like to inform the campus about an upcoming event, explain a new initiative, tell a good story, or share other need-to-know news, go to www.capital.edu/capital-you to access the submission form or provide feedback. The deadline for submissions is one week prior to publication.

 

Distributed every other Wednesday, the publication schedule for the remainder of the fall semester is:

August 28, September 11, September 25, October 9, October 23, November 6, and November 27.

Attention December 2024 Graduates!

Capital graduation

The graduation application for fall 2024 has OPENED and will CLOSE on Friday, September 6. If you are planning on graduating at the end of the upcoming term, please apply through MyCap by selecting the “Apply for Graduation” button (graduation cap symbol) through Friday, September 6. If you will be completing your degree in December, you MUST apply for graduation whether or not you plan on walking in May 2025.


This notification is for the December 2024 application ONLY. If you are anticipating graduating in May 2025, that graduation application will open later in the fall semester, with all communication coming from the graduation@capital.edu email address.

Cap Cupboard Donations

The Cap Cupboard strives to alleviate food insecurity among Capital students, staff and faculty by providing free and accessible food and hygiene items to those in need. Capital students with need will also be connected to resources, both on and off campus.

 

To open the space fully stocked, we ask that you donate nonperishables or hygiene products using our Amazon Wishlist or make a monetary donation. If you’d like to donate your time as a volunteer, contact capcupboard@capital.edu.

Capital University Bands Auditions

We’re excited to invite all instrumentalists in the Conservatory to join our premier ensembles: the Symphonic Winds and Wind Symphony. These auditions are open to all students, regardless of major.


Auditions for the Capital University Bands will be held August 21-23.

Sign-up for an audition time outside of Room 116--Conservatory Complex


Winds 

  • Major scales, with or without music (required)
  • A slow/expressive solo excerpt no longer than 2 minutes (strongly encouraged)
  • A fast/technical solo excerpt no longer than 2 minutes (strongly encouraged)
  • Band excerpts provided 1 week prior (required)
  • Prepared repertoire excerpts will be provided 1 week before the start of school. 
  • All auditions will take place in person, in front of the respective applied faculty.
  • Excerpts of band music to be performed this year.  
  • Orchestra Excerpts will be provided as well. Please plan accordingly.


Percussion         

  • Prepare all excerpts for 3 of the 4 instrument categories (snare, mallets, accessories, timpani).
  • If you wish to be considered for timpani, be sure that is one of the instruments on which you audition.
  • Excerpts will be released one week before the auditions.


Sign up for an audition time outside Room 116 in the Conservatory Complex. Audition times will be emailed to you.

Ohio Artists Featured in Fall Schumacher Exhibition

The Schumacher Gallery’s first show of 2024-25 will feature “Masterworks by Ohio Artists (1856-2018)” from September 9 to December 12. The gallery’s vast collection of art from Ohio is one of the few on permanent display in the state. Through the help of Keny Galleries, the Schumacher will highlight 75 masterworks from the permanent collection, encompassing realism, impressionism, modernism, folk art, and contemporary eras.
