Bowdoin Group Journeys to the Zone of Totality

After traveling hours to Jackman, Maine, nearly fifty Bowdoin students gathered at the edge of an icy lake ringed by small hills to watch the solar eclipse.

New Evan Gershkovich '14 Appeal Rejected


A Russian court has rejected the latest appeal by Evan Gershkovich '14 objecting to his pretrial detention in Moscow, according to numerous media outlets. The decision ensures that, barring any unforeseen developments, the Wall Street Journal reporter will remain behind bars until at least June 30.

Three Seniors Receive Watson Fellowships to Travel the World


Ebe Figueroa '24, Maya Lamm '24, and Ereny Morcos '24 (L. to r. above) will travel for twelve straight months next year, following unique itineraries around the world. “We've only had three fellows selected in the same year twice in the past, so this is pretty momentous, said Corey Colwill, who administers the program for the Office of Student Fellowships and Research.

Dinner for Ten Strangers Sets the Table for Alumnae Connections


“We are strangers no more!” proclaimed Moira Kelly '86. With that, a dinner party in Boston that brought together ten alumnae with no discernible connection beyond attending Bowdoin at different times was proclaimed a success. Claire Newton '02 had heard about Bowdoin’s practice of regularly hosting “Dinner with Six Strangers” and thought it would be a fun and creative way to approach a question she had been pondering: how to expand opportunities for meaningful cross-generational connections among Bowdoin women.

Bowdoin Spring Teams Ready for Postseason Play


As April concludes, Polar Bear spring sports teams are set for postseason action on the conference and national level. The women’s track and field team matched its best finish at the NESCAC Championship in twenty-six years, taking third at the conference meet last weekend at Tufts. Meanwhile, the men’s lacrosse team cruised to a NESCAC quarterfinal win over Williams on Saturday and will battle Middlebury in the conference semifinals this weekend at Wesleyan. The men’s tennis and women’s tennis teams learned their seedings for the upcoming NESCAC tournaments this coming weekend, while the softball team picked up a key sweep of Wesleyan as they enter the final week of regular season play. The women’s rugby team, playing in its developmental spring sevens season, traveled to Maryland for the Collegiate Rugby Championships last weekend and took fifth place overall in the Women’s Premier Division against some of the top teams in the nation. Annual All-Sports Awards Ceremony Scheduled for Thursday, May 9


The Department of Athletics will end the 2023–2024 academic year with its annual celebration of athletics at Pickard Theater on Thursday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m. The event will serve as a cap for the second annual Go U Bears Athletic Fund Challenge and will be broadcast live on the Northeast Sports Network.

Oh, That Guy! Theater Professor Davis Robinson Keeps Showing Up in Movies


If you saw The Holdovers with Paul Giamatti or Don't Look Up with Meryl Streep, you also saw the triple threat that is actor, director, and professor of theater Davis Robinson, if fleetingly. His onscreen body of work in films and television shows might surprise you.

Artist’s Lunar Capsule Project Tours Maine ahead of Upcoming Bowdoin Exhibition 


Former artist-in-residence Abigail DeVille launches an interactive sculpture designed to collect audio testimony from people. The project will inform a wider exhibition of DeVille’s work is coming to the Bowdoin College Museum of Art this summer.
